Day Three. Sunday

THE SEVENTH SEQUENCE

You’ve also brought your protagonist to a low moment, both in terms of solving the case and maybe also personally (though you can bring them to a personal high for contrast). So …

How will your protagonist rise from the ashes and reach the climax of your story, where your NEXT brilliant twist will be revealed? (Yep, you need a lot of twists!)

You also need to plant some red herrings and examine the suspects that you’ve seeded to distract the reader from the real solution.

THINGS TO KEEP IN MIND:

The sequence should end with your characters believing that they’ve solved the mystery, only to be sent in one final direction at the end of the sequence.

Writing a mystery is like laying out fishing lines and then pulling each one in slowly so the bait catches what you’re after. By the end of this sequence, you should only have a few lines left in the water.

But while we’re talking about fishing … be careful not to jump the shark.
