Chapter 40
Enid
Istared up at Nevan for what felt like eternity.
His blue-gray eyes were sharp with anger, his cheeks flushed, chest heaving, and the book I’d given him was dangling in his grip.
“Can you say something now?” he asked. “Because you’re making me a little nervous—”
My lips collided with his. The book thunked to the floor as he wrapped his arms around me, bringing me flush against him.
His hands slid up my back and to my neck, fingers threading through my hair.
He tugged me toward the bed, pulling me backward and kissing me the entire way.
Our mouths kept bumping together awkwardly, both of us smiling so big we probably looked ridiculous. But I didn’t care.
He wanted me. He knew my real name, and he still wanted me.
I kissed him harder. I kissed him with everything I had, this man who wanted to be mine. All mine.
“Are you actually letting me choose the location?” he murmured against my mouth. “That wasn’t part of our deal.”
“I’ll let it slide this one time, but only because I’ve never been in your room.” I stopped kissing him, looking around at the bare space with only a bed, a nightstand, and a small wardrobe. “There’s nothing in here.”
He laughed. “It doesn’t really feel like a home, to be honest. I just sleep here because it’s easier. I can wake up and get to work. Work right until I want to pass out in my bed at night. No commute necessary.”
I frowned. “You don’t even have a kitchen.”
He shoved a hand through his hair, and his adorable sheepish smile made an appearance. “Most days, Chef Liam or Chef Elowyn are kind enough to bring me something.”
“Your entire life really is in this tower,” I said, unable to imagine never venturing out, not being able to dig my hands in dirt and plant new seeds and see all my creations.
“But I don’t want it to be.” His expression grew serious. “I always did until I met you. Now I want to swim.” He kissed me tenderly on the nose “I want to ride . . .”
I raised a brow. “Ride what, exactly?”
He kissed my neck. “Your lily pad, you pervert.”
I laughed.
“I want it all, Kaladenid. With you.”
Hearing my name on his lips sent a thrill through me. This time, he kissed me tenderly, coaxing my mouth open and slipping his tongue inside. I loved these kisses. Sloppy and lazy and slow. Like we had time. All the time in the world.
It was moments like this with Nevan that I felt most alive. Where I could feel my blood heating, my body singing in a way it never had before. Not with Ambrose. Not with anyone.
My legs hit the edge of the bed, and we continued kissing and touching and enjoying each other until my mind started overthinking all of this. Did he truly understand who I was? What I’d done?
“Wait. Wait.” I pressed my hands against his chest. “Nevan, are you sure about this?” He’d just discovered impossible news. He could still be in shock, not thinking clearly. “Don’t you have questions? Aren’t you confused?”
He paused, brows knitting like he hadn’t even considered that he should be confused.
“I guess I was so worried you’d reject me again that this was almost a relief, if that makes sense.
Of course this was the reason. You’re a demi-godwitch, so you put up walls.
Understandably. But I can work with that, Enid.
I can work with anything as long as it means you’re going to be by my side. ”
A laugh burst out of me, and his smile turned sheepish again. I liked making him turn shy. I stroked his cheek. “That might be the sweetest thing I’ve ever heard, Nevan Wolfgang.”
He began unbuttoning the top of my dress, leaning forward to press kisses to my collarbone. “Wait. I do have one question.” He licked my throat, and I gasped. “What is your last name?”
“Earth,” I said between gasps as he kept licking his way down between my breasts, his fingers easily popping open the buttons of my dress. “All the demi-godwitches’ surnames were after their immortal parent, unless they chose to give that up.”
“Mmm,” he rumbled, kissing my stomach and sending waves of heat through me.
His fingers trailed from my navel all the way up to my neck until he was standing at his full height again, my dress parted to reveal the upper half of my body. His pupils were blown as he took me in, desire stark on his face.
He’d seen me naked many times, but this felt different. It felt like the first time he was truly seeing me, and for once, I didn’t want to hide anything.
He skimmed his hands over my shoulders, pushing the fabric of my dress until it was falling down my arms and hanging off my hips.
Why was this so erotic? I never knew someone undressing me could make my body throb like this. And it was throbbing. My thighs quivered, the area between my legs flooding with need. I let my dress fall all the way to floor, and it pooled around my ankles.
Godwitches. I needed him so badly.
He stared at me in awe, then a feral look flashed in his eyes as he pushed me back onto the bed. I fell onto the mattress while he stood over me, cock straining against his trousers.
His gaze slowly traveled from my head to my breasts, where they lingered for quite some time. “You’re so impossibly beautiful.”
“You’ve seen me naked before, you know.”
“Not like this,” he said, and I knew what he meant because it was what I’d been thinking just moments ago. “This is different.”
“Yes,” I agreed, trying to hold back tears. I would not cry when we were about to have sex.
He lifted his suspenders and let them fall at his sides, and my breath hitched in anticipation of seeing him, too, fully naked and vulnerable and wanting me.
“Are you going slow on purpose?” I asked as he fumbled with his shirt buttons. “You were quick to undo my buttons, but now you’re taking forever with yours.”
He huffed out a laugh. “That’s because undoing your buttons meant I got to see you naked.”
“Well, undoing yours means you get to fuck me.”
He choked, but my statement was effective, and his fingers started working a bit quicker.
Finally he stretched his shirt off. I wished he was on top of me so I could trace the muscles of his shoulders and arms and stomach like he’d gotten to with me.
“Come here.” I perched myself on my elbows as he undid his trousers and yanked them off.
I admired his hard length. It was thick and veined, a bead of moisture glistening on the tip. I wanted to feel him in my mouth. I wanted to feel him everywhere.
He dropped over me, caging his arms around my shoulders. “Is this better?”
I wriggled under him, arching my pelvis so that his hard length slid toward my entrance. We both gasped. “Godwitches, yes.”
It amazed me that I’d been alive thousands of years but had never felt so loved, so wanted, before. I’d never thought this would happen for me.
“Hey.” Nevan thumbed my cheek. “Are you okay?”
“Yes,” I said truthfully. “I’m better than I’ve been in a long time.”
His gaze softened, and he leaned down and kissed the tip of my nose. “Me too.”
I guess I’d just needed the right person to knock down my walls, and now all I wanted was to share everything with him. Not to get it over with or to make sure he was okay with it all. I wanted him to know everything about me just like I wanted to know everything about him.
He trailed his fingers over my nipples, and I gasped at the sensation. His eyes danced as he dragged his finger to the amulet hanging between my breasts. He stopped for moment.
“Is that what this actually is?” He lifted the amulet between us. “Does it have to do with your magic?”
I nodded. “When the godwitches still walked this earth, magic was infinite. It didn’t belong to the world.
It belonged to us, and we used it to benefit mortals.
Then the godwitches left, and this amulet appeared around my neck.
It was full at first, but as I’ve used my magic over the centuries, it’s drained. ”
He let out a strangled choking noise.
“What?” I asked. “What’s wrong?”
“You saying things like ‘centuries’ so casually is going to take some getting used to.”
I rolled my eyes.
“What happens when it drains completely?”
I shrugged. “I’m not entirely sure. But I think it’ll mean I’m mortal.”
He gazed at me with tenderness as he cupped my cheek. I leaned into his touch, reveling in it.
“How could you ever think I wouldn’t want you?” he whispered, his words sending heat coursing through me. “How could you think I’d find this out and decide to walk away? I’d never walk away from you, Kaladenid. Never.”
I closed my eyes as he kissed his way up my neck. He grabbed my chin and forced my head down, my lips meeting for a brief kiss. Too brief.
“I guess I do have a lot of questions after all,” he said before kissing me harder, his cock pressing against my entrance, stretching it open before slipping out and pushing against my thigh.
“We’ll talk,” I gasped, shifting and trying to position his cock back where it belonged. “We’ll talk about everything later.”
“Good idea,” he said, voice low.
His finger dipped down and trailed to my thighs, to everywhere but the one place I wanted him to touch me.
“Nevan.” I squirmed under him, my blood hot, my body brimming with need. “Is this normal?”
“Is what normal?” His voice was deep and low while his fingers continued to trail lazy circles around my inner thighs, making them quiver.
“To feel like I might die if I don’t get more of you soon?”
He chuckled. “Yes, it’s normal. It’s how I feel every fucking time I’m with you.”
His hard length pushed in just a little deeper but still not enough.
I nudged my pelvis forward, that throbbing intensifying to torturous heights. “We have the rest of our lives to enjoy each other. Remember? We don’t have to take it slow anymore. We can take it however we want.”
His eyes darkened. “And how do you want me, Kaladenid?”
He was going to have to stop saying my name like that before I came on the spot. I tipped my pelvis up, forcing him in a few more inches, and we both moaned.
His mouth crashed into mine, his heavy weight sinking fully onto me.
“What if we spent all day in bed?” I murmured as he kissed me. “And all night?”
A smile curved his lips. “I’ll keep you in here for two weeks if you’ll let me.”
“People might start to worry,” I pointed out.
My legs wrapped around his back, and in one swift motion, he plunged all the way into me. I moaned at the delicious feel of him filling me so completely.
“Fuck,” he said. “Oh, fuck. You feel so good.”
We began moving together, finding our rhythm, and he slipped in and out of me, each time somehow going deeper.
He moaned again. “Is this okay?”
“Yes. More.” Those were the only two words I could manage right now. “More.”
He angled his pelvis down, hitting a spot that made me cry out.
“Right there. Stay right there.”
He slammed into me harder, relentless as he rammed into me over and over. “Touch yourself,” he commanded, and my fingers went to my clit, circling rough and fast, my orgasm already rising.
“I love you,” he said. “So fucking much.”
“I love you too.” I was bursting with it, and now I felt bad for making fun of Vine all this time. I hadn’t realized what I was missing out on by being so guarded.
As my body tensed, pleasure filling me, I could understand why Nevan had wanted to take it slow. I wanted this to last forever. Him inside me and as close as he could possibly be, gazing at me like I was the absolute best thing in this world.
Fire filled my belly, my body growing tighter and tighter as he tipped me closer toward the edge.
He groaned, his cock twitching, and I knew he was close. “I want to come with you,” he gritted out.
Those words undid me, and I shattered.
I cried out, my body tightening and clenching, pleasure ricocheting through me, so violent my body arched and I screamed out while Nevan moaned, his own orgasm spurting out, hard and hot inside me.
“Holy fuck,” he said as he slumped against me. “That was amazing.” He kissed my lips before rolling off me. “I’m never letting you out of this bed.”
I laughed and curled into him, draping my legs over his, feeling completely content for possibly the first time in my entire life.
