Chapter 3 #2

Savannah called for her house staff to bring another pitcher of the mixed cocktail so we could refill our glasses.

“To your plans of getting pregnant and securing your marriage. May you get pregnant and your body snatch back immediately after.”

I grinned and lifted my glass.

The plan was set. The determination was there. Now all that was left was for everything to fall into place and my stomach to grow.

After spending another hour at Savannah’s, I gathered Princess and headed home to change and prepare for dinner with my parents.

Over the years, our relationship had grown more distant.

Each of us were caught up in our own lives.

Mom was always traveling somewhere and Dad was too busy growing his company that making time for their only daughter seemed like an aimless task for them.

A few times I would pop up at their house and catch one of them, but it didn’t happen often.

You’d think I would be used to it by now.

Growing up, my parents were always busy.

So now that I was an adult and out of the house, their presence only became even harder to get.

“Can I get another one?” I stopped my server as he passed by the table. I shook the almost empty glass.

He looked hesitant. Dropping his eyes to the glass, then glancing over his shoulder, he eventually gave me a quick nod and rushed off. My mouth turned upside down at the odd motion.

“Whatever,” I mumbled, downing my second lemon drop and grabbing my phone.

First I checked my text messages to see if they had responded to my message inquiring about their ETA.

Neither had. If this was anyone else, I would’ve been left, never the one to wait on anyone.

But I wanted to share the news about my future pregnancy with them.

Not to mention it had been a few months since I’d laid eyes on either of them.

Closing out my text app, I went to my InstaFlik.

My latest post was of my outfit change and the notifications were flooding in.

First, I went to the comments, most of them raving about how good I looked and how cute my outfit was.

I was in my walk-in closet, in front of my standing mirror.

The bright fluorescent lights beamed down on me.

I wore my mini black flared skirt with a gold chain around the waist, ivory and black cropped prep jacket, and black and gold Chanel backpack with my black Chanel pumps.

All the clothes were from my latest brand deal haul I recently posted.

I always enjoyed shopping and showing my outfits off. Over the years it brought me more attention and I wasn’t ashamed to say I ate it up.

Eventually my server came back with my drink, collecting the two empty glasses off the table as I continued to scroll my news feed, catching up on the most recent celebrity news.

“Are you ready to order food or are you still waiting for the rest of your party to arrive?” the server asked, coming back to the table.

I paused my scrolling and shot a glare at him. This was the third time he had asked if I wanted to order more and each time I turned him away.

“Am I bothering you by sitting here?”

His eyes shot open. “Oh no, ma’am, I was just wondering…”

“I told you my party was running late and I would let you know once I was ready for food.” Reaching over, I snatched my backpack off the chair to the side of me and dug inside. Grabbing my wallet, I pulled out a hundred-dollar bill and tossed it on the table.

“Here. Take this and leave me alone.” I shooed him off. “When I’m ready for food, I’ll let you know.”

Returning my wallet into my bag, I put it back down then resumed scrolling on my phone. An hour had passed since I had been waiting for my parents and now my irritation was at an all-time high.

Going to my call log, I went to my mom’s name first. It rang twice before going to voicemail. Ignoring the tightness forming in my chest, I went to my dad’s name next. His phone didn’t even ring before it went to voicemail.

After two more failed attempts to both, I had finished my lemon drop and was ready for another one.

I was about to close out my call log when my eyes landed on Hubby.

The three lemon drops were starting to take effect and I had a small buzz.

A thought popped into my head. If my parents weren’t coming, I could use this to put my plan in motion.

Clicking Yosiah’s name, I waited and waited for him to answer, but eventually his voicemail greeted me instead. Releasing an exasperated breath, I tried again with no resolve.

When a random server passed my table and I stopped her, letting her know I wanted another drink, then went back to my social media.

Despite the heaviness that had formed inside me, I couldn’t help but smile through it, reading the compliments I got from my followers.

I had a ton of new DMs. Most of the time I ignored them, but against my better judgement, I scrolled through them.

Savannah’s words played over in my head as I took in the amount of guys reaching out to me.

It was an ego boost for sure, and as easy as it would to be to take one of them up on their offer to go out, I wasn’t ready to admit defeat in my marriage just yet.
