32. Ryder
Her breath is shallow but warm against my cheek. I squeeze her, nuzzling my face into the crook of her neck. I know I must be crushing her, but I need to cover as much of her as possible. I have survived worse than a few bullets, but I won’t survive if she isn’t here.
Ronnie takes out the last gunman and orders our remaining men to scan the area.
I push myself up onto my elbows so I can brush the hair away from her face.
“Devina, I’m here. Can you hear me? Baby, please open your eyes. Don’t leave me. Don’t you dare leave me!” I plead.
Her black dress is dirty from the ground and darkening as crimson smears across her middle.
She’s been struck just below her ribs. Blood is coming as though a floodgate has been opened. I pull her towards me putting pressure on her wounds. Seeing her blood on my hands unleashes something feral deep within me and the need to kill overpowers my thoughts.
I know they are all dead but they didn’t come on their own. Someone sent them and that person will pay.
