FEATHERS Williams appeared to report that the carriage stood ready; Kitty darted up the stairs to fetch a forgotten handkerchief and returned triumphant.
At last the household was gathered in the hall. The great door swung wide, letting in a rush of cold air and the sound of wheels on the frosted street. The carriage waited, polished and gleaming, the Darcy crest bright upon the door.

Darcy offered his arm, and she took it with more assurance than he had ever seen in her. Together they descended the steps, Elizabeth and Kitty following close behind. The feathers swayed, the train swept behind, and the day began in earnest.
Within minutes all were settled inside, the coachman lifted his whip, and the horses moved forwards.
The city awaited.
