CHAPTER THIRTEEN
Mike, Parker, Hiro, and Joseph sat in the reception area while a young girl skittered toward the back. He heard her telling someone that the fire department was there to investigate the elevator incident. Then they heard the voice of someone they were almost positive was Abigail.
“What the fuck does that have to do with us?” she yelled.
In the glass partition they saw the woman’s reflection and her tugging her skirt down. Behind her was a large dark-skinned man, his hands resting at her hips.
“Bold,” muttered Parker.
“Just get me close enough to the computer that I can download everything and we can leave,” said Hiro. The others only nodded. When they heard the clicking of heels, the receptionist sat at her desk, looking downward while two other women stood to the side.
At first they appeared inconvenienced, then they stared at the four men with milky sweet smiles.
“Gentlemen, we’re terribly busy but I suppose we can make time for you,” said Abigail. “I’m Abigail Sanders, the Vice-President of Marketing. This is Samantha Gordon, our Human Resources Manager. What can we do for you?”
“We have some questions about the incident the other evening with the elevator,” said Mike. “I’d like to speak to the woman who was trapped inside.”
“Her?” scoffed Abigail. “She’s no longer with the company. Dead weight and all that. I’m sure I can answer any questions you have.” She stepped closer, one long fingernail reaching for his chest. Mike gripped her hand so hard she gasped.
“Don’t touch me, ma’am. I’m here on business and business alone. I’d like to remind you that if you terminated Ms. Marshall because of the accident, she’ll have quiet a lawsuit against you.”
“He’s right,” said Parker smirking at the two women. “She was nearly killed and although the elevator is the building’s domain, you seem to have no concern regarding her safety at all.”
“Who are you?” growled Samantha.
“We told you. We’re with the NOFD. Those two men,” he said casually waving toward Hiro and Joseph, “are part of a government risk management investigation group. I’m sure you’d prefer to not have federal officials in here.”
Both women swallowed and looked at one another.
“No. Of course not. And we were very concerned for Ms. Marshall. It was just that her work has been sub-par lately. We don’t put up with mediocrity.”
Joseph stared at the man standing behind the two women. He hadn’t said a word but it was obvious that he was moving from side to side, adjusting his still hard cock.
“And what part of mediocrity does he not meet?” asked Joseph. Abigail burned with anger and shock staring at him.
“He’s a highly qualified professional. Do not speak of him like that!”
“Interesting,” said Joseph. “You choose only to defend some employees. Never mind. I’m very good at telling when people lie and right now, you are off the charts.” She started to speak but he held up his hand.
“Never mind. Don’t dig yourself deeper. We need access to your cameras,” said Joseph.
“Our c-cameras,” stammered Samantha.
“That’s right. Either do it willingly or we come in with a warrant,” said Hiro.
Abigail gave an imperceptible nod and Samantha waved Joseph and Hiro toward a room in the back corner that contained all of the servers, as well as the security footage.
The truth was that they could have gotten whatever footage they needed from the building but they wanted to be closer to the servers.
Samantha and Abigail appeared restless and whispered off to the side as the men inspected the elevator shaft, still closed for repairs. In the server room, Hiro was downloading everything he could find.
“Did you see them rubbing on the big dude right in front of us,” he whispered to Joseph.
“I think it was the big dude rubbing on them but yes, I know what you mean. I think he’s taking that drug and it’s out of control for him. The only reason he isn’t dead yet is that he’s relatively healthy and fit. But it will catch up to him sooner or later.”
After nearly two hours of pretending to be busy and downloading their entire existence, the four men prepared to leave.
“I hope you got what you came for,” smirked Abigail.
“No you don’t,” said Mike glaring at the woman. The smile on her face disappeared and she stood straighter with Samantha at her side.
“Tell Ms. Marshall we hope she’s well,” said Samantha with a sly grin.
“Well, if that’s the game we’re playing,” said Parker. “How about I tell your husbands that the two of you frequent the Naked Saddle to spend time with big boy there?”
The women both blanched, Jordan jerked his head up, glaring at Parker.
“Relax big fella,” he smirked. “I’ve seen you there a few times when I picked up my girlfriend. Guys gotta make money somehow, even if it’s bad for his health.”
“Fuck you,” he growled.
“No thanks,” laughed Parker. “I know where that dick has been.”
Before Samantha or Abigail could say anything, another woman was running toward them.
“What is it now, Alice?” barked Samantha. She whispered in their ear and Joseph smiled at them, then turned to the men nodding his head toward the working elevator.
“I believe we’re done here.”
When the four men were gone, Samantha and Abigail were still standing in the reception area, pale and shaking. Jordan didn’t seem to give a shit, still rubbing his stiff dick against their asses. Samantha turned, barking sharply.
“Not now!” He jumped back and glared at her. Then stepped forward, gripping her neck.
“You don’t tell me when I get it,” he said. “I make decisions for myself. You want it you come begging to me. I’m outta here.”
He stormed out of the office and Abigail looked at Samantha.
“It doesn’t matter. We’ll find him later,” said Abigail. “I didn’t like those men. And that guy mentioned Everest. Why? Do they know something?”
“I don’t think that’s what we need to worry about,” said Samantha. “We need to worry about who’s speaking to Sebastian Myers and why were his records downloaded, in their entirety?” They looked at one another, shaking.
“We need to start creating an exit plan. Now.”
