Chapter 18

I fell in love with you because you loved me when I couldn't love myself. - curiano

Plague

We get back to the club with a box full of cookies from Lacey’s latest favorite place. She found a small shop about thirty minutes away that bakes with all organic and non-toxic ingredients. I have no idea what any of that means, only that she’s passionate about them, and we have to hide them from Baker, or he’ll get all huffy puffy over the fact she didn’t ask him to make them. My brother has claimed the position of unofficial club grandpa and has been trying to feed Lacey damn near every time he sees her. We all find it amusing, but my woman feels guilty to always be eating the club’s food. I told her it’s all of our food, but she’s still not completely used to the way things work around the MC. She’s trying, though, and it’s all any of us can ask for; it sure does make the brothers appreciate her more. She’s a damn good woman.

“I can’t believe the new girl told me I was too fat to ride on a bike and I should leave you to women who can.” She shakes her head, biting into a cookie. She chews a bit violently, her cheeks turning red all over again.

“I tossed that bitch out on her ass, baby. You know we don’t tolerate disrespect towards ol’ ladies around here. You deserve respect at all times.” And I mean it, that chick had lost her motherfucking mind if she thought we’d put up with that trash for even a moment. I kinda wished my woman popped a few of her teeth out for speaking to her that way, but Lace is all grace and took it with a raised brow.

“Still, I can’t stop thinking about what she said.”

“She was jealous. Your tits are huge, you have the ass bitches like her have to pay for. Don’t give her bullshit comment another thought.”

“My boobs have gotten big.”

“They’re fucking amazing, babe. Love sucking and nibbling on them. Probably more than you love those cookies. I still think you should let me pierce them for you.”

She rolls her eyes and flashes a smile. Her being happy is all that matters to me. I’ll kick club slut after club slut out of the MC if I have to-to keep the peace among the ol’ ladies. There are three of them around now, so their comfort is being made a priority. They love us enough to not ask us to change, and we love them enough to carve out a spot in our way of life so they fit. It’s a balance and new whores showing up and rocking the boat won’t fly with any of us. “You need to give this box to Angel and Mouse. If it stays in here, I’ll eat all twenty cookies.”

“So eat ‘em. I want you and our baby happy and if that means gluten-free organic chocolate chip cookies do it, then eat all twenty,” I say seriously, and she giggles. Fuck, I love the sound of her lightness, making every inch of my life bright.

She shakes her head, “No. Let’s share so the next time I want popcorn or a smoothie made, they won’t mind.”

“They don’t mind, no matter what. You have everyone wrapped around your damn pinky and excited over the baby. I’d be a jealous fool if my kid wasn’t filling your stomach.” My knee lands on the bed as I move to kneel beside her, then bend over so I can kiss the middle of her belly. “Christ, Jailbait, I love every single inch of you.”

“I love you too, I always have.”

“I know you have. So what’s next? We could get a place?”

She shrugs. “I like being with you and you enjoy spending time with your brothers.”

“This is why you’re perfect for me.”

“Cause I like cookies and hanging out in your bed?”

I chuckle. She’s not wrong. “Because you know how to make me happy and it’s important to you. You’re a damn good woman. I want you to know you are my everything, that you are my priority above all else. We’ll need our privacy as a couple and I’m good with it. My brothers are too. I was thinking we could get a spot at the apartments down the road? It’s not as fancy as your place, but it would be ours. Will you move in with me?”

She makes decent money, more than I ever have, but she’s never once made me feel like she’s too good for my life and what I can offer. Don’t get me wrong, I will provide for my family. She can always fall back and count on me if she wants.

“Our lives will become one, are you sure you’re ready for that?” she asks, staring at me expectantly.

“It’s already happened. When you stepped foot on the compound and asked for my help, there was never going to be any going back after. I knew I wanted you even if I tried to fight it at first. You’re who I want for the rest of my life. I have no doubts in my mind, period.”

“Then yes, I want to move in with you and continue building this life we have, together.”

Together. I silently repeat, weighing the word.

With her, life is better.

With them both, the blackness disappears completely and my heart beats double time.

The end.
