Chapter 15 #3

“The only thing I wish I could change was that Mom had taken me with her. I wouldn’t care if we struggled, as long as I had her.”

He was quiet, his fingers reaching out to take the joint. “I’d change a lot of my past if I could.”

“Like what?”

“I’d protect my family better. Wouldn’t have let my hatred for you fester inside me until I snapped. I really should leave you alone and let Skeet have you.”

“You should,” I said softly as he finished the joint and put it in the ashtray, immediately pulling another one out.

“I can’t,” he murmured, lighting it and having a few puffs before handing it to me.

“We need to be studied. There’s something wrong with us,” I chuckled dryly, closing my eyes as I smoked.

“If anyone studied us, we’d end up in straightjackets,” he joked, the sound of his computer keys clicking again.

We weren’t alone for long before the door opened and Matteo walked in, abruptly halting when he saw me lounging across his boss’ desk. Slash didn’t say anything about me being there, he barely glanced up from his screen.

“Can you tell D to double the next beer order? You fuckers are drinking too much.”

“What’s she doing here?” Matteo asked instead, glaring at me.

“What’s it look like?” I deadpanned, waving the joint at him before handing it to Slash. “You don’t like me, huh?”

“What gave that away?” he bit out, making me grin.

“This warm welcome. You guys are too emotional.”

“Donovan,” Slash warned, blowing smoke at me.

“Just saying,” I hummed, feeling the tension in the room thicken. For once, it wasn’t aimed at me, it was between them.

“She’s on your cock now too?” Matteo scoffed, shaking his head in disgust.

“She’s going to be around, she’s not just a fling to Skeet, so get used to it,” Slash said firmly, handing me the joint again so he could finish typing whatever it was that he was working on. “Can I help you with something or are you just in here to bother me?”

“I need to talk to you about something important. Alone. It’s about that thing you got me to look into,” he gritted out.

“The Devils? Go on. Donovan knows all about them. Rivera has a boner for her,” Slash muttered.

“I’m not—”

“Did you find their stash or not?” he snapped, and Matteo glared at him.

“I did.”

“Is there a problem with it?”

“No.”

“Then handle it. Take Samuel,” Slash said dismissively, using the mouse to click on things before glancing at me. “Hunter hasn’t said anything to you about Devil’s business, right?”

“Why would he? He knows I’m loyal to Skeet and whatever game he’s playing won’t get him far,” I replied.

“You’re using her as a rat now?” Matteo demanded, and I snorted.

“No. I’m not working for you dumb fucks.”

Slash sighed, giving me a pointed look. “Donovan has an issue with authority and doing as she’s told.

No, I haven’t sent her into enemy territory to do our dirty work.

Besides, you saw what happened with Lonnie.

You think I‘d risk the same thing happening? Skeet would tear the whole town apart if Rivera got his hooks in her. Not worth the trouble.”

Matteo laughed, but there was no humor in it. “That’s the thing. Not that long ago, you would’ve sent her in like you did with Lonnie. If Hunter kills her, then you get your wish without getting blood on your hands, and Skeet—”

“Aurora is not to be touched. We’ve made a truce, and I’m done wasting energy on it. She’s Skeet’s girl, so leave it at that,” Slash replied sharply, not letting him finish his sentence.

“Between you and Skeet, this crew will crumble. All because of pussy,” Matteo bit out, turning and leaving the room without another word, slamming the door behind him.

“Your crew should respect you more. You’re the boss,” I said lightly, smirking when he gave me a dirty look.

“You defy me at every turn. You have no room to talk, Killer.”

“You like it when I fight you though,” I teased. “Okay, new game. What’s your favorite food?”

“Steak. Yours?”

“I never had much steak until recently. I don’t blame you for liking it, it’s good,” I hummed, dragging on the joint and thinking for a moment. “I surprisingly like fish. Josie has the chef make fancy shit, and it’s grown on me.”

“Thought you liked melted plastic with your meat, and uncooked vegetables from what I saw at Ty’s,” he grinned.

“I’ll shoot you, asshole.”

“Your aim still sucks. I’ll survive. At least if I don’t, Matteo will avenge me. He’d love a reason to take you out.”

I rolled my eyes, looking over as the door opened again to reveal Skeeter. He didn’t seem surprised to see me as he scanned me for damage, then he shut the door behind him and walked over to me, leaning down to drop a kiss on my lips.

“Hey. What are you doing here?” he asked, moving towards his desk for a cigarette.

“Slash said I could hang out with the girls. Came in here to harass him when they left,” I mumbled, sitting up with a yawn. My head spun from the weed, and I put out the last little bit of it.

“D said you showed up together.”

“He stopped by the house.”

“Why?”

“You were busy and she needed something handled,” Slash answered for me, leaning back in his seat.

“What kind of something?”

“Unwanted guests.”

Slash hadn’t said who, but I could tell Skeeter knew straight away. “They went to her house?”

“I handled it. They’re trying to drive a wedge between you two, that’s all. Nothing would get under your skin like losing her to them. If you handle them, you’re reacting like they want. The crew don’t need you losing your cool right now.”

I thought Skeeter was going to argue, but he sighed and nodded, his jaw clenched.

“Thanks. They didn’t touch you, Aurora?”

“No. I just called Slash and let him deal with them. They’re just being a pest to piss you off, they don’t want to hurt me,” I explained, and he scowled.

“I’d like to think they wouldn’t, but who knows what’s going through their minds. If it benefits them, they’ll hurt you. Remember that. I need to organize stuff for the fights tonight. Do you want to stick around and watch some?”

I blinked at him, not expecting him to be so calm about me being here.

“Uh, yes.”

“Can you do me a favor then? Help D tonight. If it’s busy, hang around the bar or collect empty bottles and glasses. I think he’d like the company, and it means people see you as part of us.”

“Do I get paid?” I asked dryly, and he scoffed.

“If you work hard, then sure.”

I looked at Slash, who shrugged, so I stood and put my gun down the back of my pants.

“Sold. Shall I go home and change into booty shorts to earn tips?”

It was a joke, but Skeeter paused and looked over at me. “We don’t tip here. The crew mostly drinks off a tab. Fighters and spectators pay though. I won’t stop you showing some skin, but just know that if anyone even leers in your direction, I’ll shoot them.”

“Denim shorts and a tank with sneakers?”

He crooked a finger at me and I moved towards him.

“You could wear a trash bag and I’ll still drag you in here to rail you. You’re not one of the whores, so keep your tits in your shirt, and if anyone grabs your ass or tries to make a pass, you tell them who you belong to.”

“I don’t—”

“Who the fuck do you belong to, Aurora?” he asked in a low voice, making my pussy pulse.

“You.”

“Good girl. Make sure to tell everyone tonight. I’m not whoring my girl out for money, and everyone needs to respect that.

” He studied my face for a moment before grabbing the front of my shirt and tugging me closer for a kiss, speaking against my lips.

“One hundred percent be a whore for me though.”

I could sense Slash’s eyes on us, and I let Skeeter pull me into his lap to consume me, wondering what it would be like if Slash got up and started kissing me too.

Would they compete to get me off? Would they work together?

“Can you two fuck off if you’re going to fuck? This is an office,” Slash drawled, giving us a dirty look as I stood and flashed him a smile.

“Aw, you want a kiss too?”

“Choke on my cock or fuck off.”

“Make me,” I threw back, but Skeeter swatted my ass to shut me up.

“Go. I need to talk to Slash about Psychos business anyway. Let D know you’re working with him tonight, he hates surprises.”

I saluted him and left the room, aware of both of them staring at my ass as I left, heading over to Diesel to let him know he had a bar buddy for the night.
