Chapter 18 Party Time
Milly
A week after Twitch proposed, we decided to throw an engagement party.
Twitch is eager to get married as soon as possible, and honestly, I’m just as excited.
We chose a local bar for the celebration so everyone could relax, enjoy themselves, and not have to worry about cooking or cleaning.
The ol’ ladies took charge of decorating the entertainment room, filling it with balloons, streamers, and a big Congratulations sign.
They even hired a DJ, which has added a fun, lively vibe to the night.
A waiter walks over with a tray of champagne glasses, and I take one, savoring the feeling of being wined and dined.
“Thank you,” I say with a smile, and take a small sip.
The bubbles tickle my nose, and I glance around the room, soaking in the joy and laughter of everyone here to celebrate with us.
I’ve been planning another vacation with Twitch, but this time, I’m paying for it.
I earn good money, and I want him to know that I value him and our relationship.
He doesn’t need to feel like the sole provider—I’m a successful woman, and I want to contribute just as much as he does.
It’s important to me that he knows we’re equals in this partnership.
“You look beautiful,” Ava says, pulling me from my thoughts. She’s standing beside me, her smile making me feel even more confident.
“Thank you,” I reply, glancing down at my dress. I bought it specifically for tonight—a navy blue cocktail dress with a V neckline and flutter sleeves. “I’ve never spent this much on a dress before, but Sophie talked me into it. She was adamant it was made for me.”
Ava chuckles. “She was right. You look stunning.”
“Do you like the heels?” I ask, extending my leg to show them off. I rarely wear heels, but these matched the dress perfectly, and I have to admit, I like how they make me feel.
“I love them,” Ava says, her eyes sparkling. “You’ve really gotten your confidence back. You’re glowing.”
Her words warm my heart. “I really appreciate that,” I say, glancing down at my engagement ring. “I’ve never felt this good.”
“It’s because you found the right person to spend your life with,” Ava says softly.
“I settled for my first husband, and it was the worst mistake of my life. He made me feel like a failure, no matter how hard I tried. But with Reaper . . .” She lets out a contented sigh, her smile growing.
“He makes me feel beautiful and wanted. He’s shown me what love truly is.
When you feel true love, you just know you’re meant to be with that person forever. ”
Her words resonate deeply with me. Twitch has always made me feel beautiful, even when I’m in sweatpants with a messy bun. He’s never made me feel like I had to be anything other than myself.
Zara walks over, her hands resting on her round belly. She looks radiant, and I can’t help but smile. “How far along are you now?” I ask, reaching out to gently touch her belly.
“Five months,” she replies, her face glowing with happiness.
Ava and I both rub her belly, and I chuckle. “I love pregnant bellies,” I say. It’s such a sweet, special time, and seeing Zara like this makes me think about how fast everything has happened with Twitch. It’s been a whirlwind, but I wouldn’t change a thing.
As I glance around the room, I take in the smiling faces of our friends and family. Everyone is chatting, laughing, and enjoying themselves. The DJ is playing soft music, and the atmosphere is great. Sophie walks back from the DJ booth with a mischievous grin on her face.
“Do you have a song request?” she asks, leaning in conspiratorially. “Quick, before the men take over the playlist.”
“‘Bonnie and Clyde’ by Phix,” I say without hesitation. It’s a fun, upbeat song that reminds me of my relationship with Twitch—wild, passionate, and unbreakable.
Sophie grins and heads back to the DJ. Moments later, the song starts playing, and she grabs the microphone.
“Everyone!” she calls out, her voice cutting through the chatter.
The room quiets, and all eyes turn to her.
“This song is for Twitch and Milly.” She raises her glass high. “Congratulations, you two lovebirds!”
The room erupts in cheers and applause, and Twitch makes his way over to me. He’s dressed in his usual club attire, and I love him for it. He doesn’t need to dress up or prove anything—he’s perfect just the way he is. He pulls me close, his lips brushing mine in a brief but tender kiss.
“I can’t wait to get you out of this dress,” he murmurs, his voice low and full of promise.
I throw my head back, laughing. “I could tell by the way you’ve been ogling me all night.”
He scoffs, his lips curving into a pout. “Have you seen how drop-dead gorgeous you look? You should be wearing your property patch.”
“Over this?” I ask, glancing down at my dress.
He nods, his expression serious. “Yes, so every man in this place knows you’re mine.”
I roll my eyes at his overprotectiveness, but secretly, I love it. “I need to go to the restroom,” I say, setting my glass down on a nearby table. “I’ll be right back.”
“Do I need to fight every man who tries to talk to you outside this room?” he teases, his tone playful but with a hint of seriousness.
I laugh, swatting his arm. “Twitch, stop it. I’ll be right back.”
As I step outside of the entertainment area, I walk past the bar and pause.
A beautiful woman wearing a long wedding dress is sitting there.
I peer around. It doesn’t look like a bridal party is here, which is strange.
As I walk closer, I can see she’s been crying.
My stomach drops, thinking something horrible has happened to her.
To my surprise, as I’m walking past, I see Rage sitting next to her. She gives him a small smile, and it warms my heart that he’s trying to comfort this poor woman and make her smile. He’s such a great guy, but it has me wondering if anything will come of it.
I don’t linger, not wanting to intrude on their moment. Instead, I head to the restroom. Tonight has been perfect so far, and I can’t help but feel grateful for everything—the love, the laughter, and the people who make my life so full.
The end.
