Chapter 37

Adam: Hey, is everything OK? You haven’t replied to my last couple of texts. I can take over the OS stuff if it’s too much?

Eve: Hey

Eve: I’m sorry — things have been a bit all over the place

Eve: I still want to sort this vet thing

Eve: Have you seen her?

Adam: Not for a few days now. I hope she’s OK. Shout if you spot her?

Eve: Of course

* * *

Eve: Just seen her on my patio and she ran in your direction

Eve: Can you check??

Adam: I’m not home, sorry!

Eve: Educating the masses?

Adam: Ha. I’m actually at the hospital — work would be preferable.

Eve: Oh, sorry

Eve: Are you OK?

Eve: You don’t have to give details if it’s something embarrassing

Eve: Or at all, actually

Eve: I’ve made this weird, haven’t I?

Adam: Haha, don’t worry, I can take it. It’s not me, though — I’m still fit for service for the stray cats of Greater Manchester. My brother’s in with pneumonia.

Eve: I’m really sorry. Do you need anything?

Adam: Honestly, I’m fine, but thank you for asking.

Eve: Offer stands whenever you need it

* * *

Adam: Did you leave a burrito on my doorstep?

Eve: Yes

Eve: I thought you might need some tea

Adam: Thank you. Seriously. It’s really good.

Eve: No problem

Eve: See — I can be neighbourly!

Adam: I believe you ;)

* * *

Eve: I can hear meowing

Eve: Can you?

Adam: It’s two in the morning . . .

Eve: But can you hear it?

Adam: Nope. Why are you awake?

Eve: I’m not sleeping too well at the moment

Eve: You?

Adam: My phone vibrated.

Eve: Sorry!

Adam: Why aren’t you sleeping well?

Eve: Busy brain

Eve: How’s your brother?

Adam: He’s much better — thank you for asking. He’s got Cerebral Palsy, so it was a really tough time.

Eve: Sounds like it was really scary

Eve: I’m glad he’s OK

Adam: Thanks, me too. I hope you manage to get some sleep!

Eve: I will, eventually :)
