Chapter 4

With Jordan off with a new woman, Stephanie decided she’d give the place ten more minutes and then call an Uber.

When she had chosen to walk the few blocks here from the gym, she had thought that Jordan would be giving her a ride home, but she should’ve known better than that. Jordan always met someone.

With any luck, she’d be home and out of the red dress and in her pajamas within the hour or, better yet, in bed sleeping.

It wasn’t that she didn’t enjoy dressing up it was that this dress had been an impulse buy and was more expensive than she usually spent on her clothes.

She was trying to wear it enough to get her money’s worth from it, even if she knew that when she leaned over, her butt would almost show.

A bad choice for the evening, she wanted to be left alone.

“Rum and coke?” A voice asked from beside her.

Turning, she saw a gorgeous Asian woman looking right at her. Dark smoky eyes bored into her as she flipped a lock of black silky hair behind her back. Stephanie’s eyes followed the movement and right into the plunging neckline of a white blouse. It was so deep the woman’s lavender bra was showing.

Snapping her eyes back up to the woman’s face, she couldn’t help but notice the smirk. The woman knew exactly what she had been looking at. But she’d dressed, so that everyone looked at her breasts.

The woman waved at the bartender and then leaned more into the bar, facing her. “You're drinking a rum and coke, right?”

Stephanie analyzed her almost empty glass in confusion. How could the woman know that just from looking? “Yes.”

Just as she said it, the bartender, whose orange hair was amazingly bad from color to cut, slid a fresh glass in front of her, and a martini in front of the woman.

How she had known what drinks to bring them Stephanie didn’t know, and as the woman continued to focus all her attention on her, she didn’t care anymore.

It felt so good to be hit on, even if she hadn’t wanted that seconds before.

“I haven’t seen you in here before. Have you been, and I missed you?” the woman asked, then took a sip of her drink, leaving her upper lip wet and shiny until her tongue slipped out and slowly licked the moisture away. The move was nothing but sexy. “I would hate to have missed you.”

“I’ve never been here before.” Tearing her eyes away from the lips, she told her, taking a drink of her new beverage that was made far stronger than the last one.

And now she knew she had to stay longer than she had wanted to.

It would be rude not to drink the drink, but maybe this woman would make the time fly.

“What brings you to the Button?” The woman carefully put her drink down on a coaster on the bar.

“Girls’ night out.” Stephanie told her as another woman slipped up to the bar on Stephanie’s other side, not leaving much room between them, causing Stephanie to shift away from the woman she was talking to.

“Then why are you all alone? Where are the girls? How many girls were there?” Pouting, she leaned closer, just enough to barely brush Stephanie’s shoulder with her own, but rested her hand on Stephanie’s bare thigh.

It was not so high that it was uncomfortable, but she didn’t feel the excitement she had expected, either. Which told her no matter who this woman was, Stephanie wasn’t ready for what she was offering. She had known that, but that she was right about it wasn’t as comforting as she had expected.

“It’s just the two of us tonight, and my friend has met someone already.” She pointed in Jordan’s general direction. No need to point out the actual woman. “How about you?”

“Let’s hope you meet someone, too.” The woman tapped her glass against Stephanie’s with a wink as her hand inched upward under the bar. “Rebel.”

“Not really, I’m kind of a stay in my lane sort of girl.

I don’t usually take a lot of chances. They usually don’t turn out well for me.

” She said in confusion. Had she missed part of the conversation as she focused on the hand?

Should she remove the hand before it was touching her panties?

Because it was moving ever so slowly upward.

On the other side of her, someone’s hand brushed hers, making her turn and watch a tall, slender woman take her full martini glass from the bar. Their eyes met when the woman stated, “Her name is Rebel.”

“Oh,” Stephanie said in realization of her mistake, unable to look away.

Her blonde hair was short and styled nicely.

She was sexy without trying, not like Rebel, who was doing everything in her power to exude sex.

Even the blonde’s charcoal-colored slacks that ended with black shiny wingtips were mouthwatering compared to the other woman’s shirt, skirt, and bare legs.

Then again, Stephanie had a type, and it was the other woman.

The blonde grinned at her and shot out her hand, the one not holding her drink. “I’m Court.”

Shifting so Rebel’s hand slipped away, Stephanie took the offered hand in her own.

She couldn’t help but like the feel of it in hers.

Soft, yet secure and confident as they shook.

A slight shake that went on far too long, but she couldn’t bring herself to let go.

Not with the wave of heat that was washing through her at the simple touch.

“Stephanie. I’m Stephanie.”

“Nice to meet you, Stephanie.” Court didn’t let go of her hand.

“Nice to meet you also, Court.” Loving the feeling of the hand’s warmth, she tried out the name.

It suited the woman before her. There was something familiar about the woman herself, but Stephanie couldn’t place her.

New that she had never met her before. If she had, she wouldn’t have forgotten. Not this woman.

If Rebel was there anymore, Stephanie didn’t know. All her focus was on the woman before her. Court whose mere touch caused not just the other woman, but the entire room to vanish around them.
