Moving to Providence is exciting and terrifying.
We find an apartment in a converted warehouse, high ceilings and brick walls perfect for my studio space. Cassie sets up a writing nook by the window where she can watch the city while she writes.
“This is real,” she says on our first night, looking around at the empty apartment.
“Yeah. It is.”
“We’re actually doing this. We’re actually building a life together.”
“We are. How do you feel about that?” I ask.
“Scared. Excited. Like I’m exactly where I’m supposed to be even though a year ago I would have said that was impossible.”
“A year ago I would have said you’d never forgive me.”
“I have, and I don’t regret it.” She leans in and gives me a kiss, and I take the kiss hoping for it to lead to more.
