Chapter 18

Chapter Eighteen

For once, saying goodbye hadn’t been easy. Of course, that alone was messing with Dayne’s head.

In the past, he normally preferred sexual encounters that only skimmed the surface. What happened between him, Cara, and Heath during that week together had been real and had gone much deeper than ever before.

Somehow, both Cara and Heath managed to dive below the surface and hold him below the crashing waves. Only, he wasn’t sure how to navigate those dangerous waters. Or even if he’d need to learn.

Now that they were gone, would he simply drown? Or would he fight his way back to the shore, drag himself out of the water and go about his life like their week together never happened?

Was that even possible?

So many thoughts had swamped him ever since Heath and Cara got into their respective vehicles and drove away.

Despite the hollow feeling left behind, he had no regrets about being with them, and only them, for an entire week .

Well, maybe one, but it was more of a selfish regret. He wished Cara had been experienced enough that he and Heath could have fucked her at the same time.

Realistically, that would have been rushing things and it probably would not have gone well, anyway. Cara would have needed a lot of prep to take two hard cocks at once since she had never done anal before.

Since their time had been limited, neither he nor Heath wanted it to end up being an unpleasant experience for her. Not if Dayne wanted her to return to the resort.

He hoped she would.

The same with Heath.

However, if she did return, would she want to spend more time with him, or would she prefer a different experience with someone new?

For some reason, that last part twisted Dayne’s gut.

He’d never been possessive of anyone before and didn’t like this feeling at all.

The resort is your playground. Don’t limit yourself.

He tried to convince himself that he hadn’t had sex with anyone else for the last two weeks because he had too much sex the week they were guests.

But deep down, even he didn’t believe that.

Yes, they’d had a lot of sex, but it wasn’t any more or less than what he normally would have had.

The fact that he had zero interest in anyone else right now scared the shit out of him since it never happened to him before. He also never had such a deep attraction to anyone the same as this. Where he couldn’t get enough.

It wasn’t only for one or the other. It had been both of them. How could he fall this deeply for two people at the same damn time? And in only one week?

Was he sick? Did he snap ?

Or was he simply tired of the revolving door in his wing? Finding new sex partners every night could be exhausting. Not only would he have to find the right ones, they had to figure out boundaries.

He now knew most of what turned on Heath and Cara as well as what turned them off. What their limits were. How to get them to orgasm more quickly or how to selfishly delay it.

Quite simply, the three of them had fallen into an easy sexual relationship. They gelled.

Finding partners to take their place, even for a night, would take more work right now than he was willing to do.

He couldn’t wrap his head around it all. The hollowness in his chest. The crazy feeling of loss. The even crazier realization he currently had no interest in others.

This was not Dayne Lyons. He had to have been a victim of body snatchers. No other plausible explanation existed.

While he hated to have to go to his brother for advice, he needed to talk to someone about it. If anyone would understand what he was experiencing, it would be his twin, since Dylan had gone through the same thing.

Only, look where Dylan was now. In a committed relationship. With both a man and a woman. Is that what Dayne wanted?

Shit.

The three of them only spent a week together. A damn week! Less than seven days wasn’t enough to determine whether he wanted a committed—or even semi-committed—relationship with them.

Heath lived in New Jersey. Cara in Carlisle. A long-distance commitment meant he’d hardly ever have sex again. Especially since their visits would most likely be few and far between since both had busy lives elsewhere.

He couldn’t survive that .

A bit dramatic? Sure. One thing Dayne was serious about was sex.

Unfortunately, when he went to find Dylan, his twin wasn’t alone. Their sister Danica was hanging out in their brother’s office, too.

Of course, a day couldn’t end without him giving one or both of his siblings shit. Being a shit-stirrer was in his blood. “Are you two discussing our crazy food bills and how to keep it within the budget I gave you?”

Dani barked out a laugh. “Budget? What’s a budget? Quality ingredients are priceless.”

Dayne rolled his eyes and, with a huff, threw himself into the seat next to her.

“What’s up?” Dylan asked with his brow pulled low.

“I need to talk to you about something.”

“So, talk. Nothing has ever stopped you from running your trap before.”

Dayne glanced over at Dani, waiting for her to excuse herself.

Of course, she didn’t. “If it has to do with the business, I want to hear it, too, since I’m a silent partner.”

Dayne snorted. “You are far from silent.”

Dylan shook his head. “Okay, spill. I have important things to do.”

“Are you saying I’m not important?”

“If that’s what you heard…”

“I think I’m broken,” Dayne reluctantly confessed.

“You’re only figuring this out now ?” Dani snort-laughed. “We’ve known it since you were two.”

“You weren’t even born yet when Dyl Weed and I were two.”

Dani grinned and shrugged. “Mom said you are the way you are due to a lack of oxygen to your brain. ”

“Then it’s Dylan’s fault. He hogged the womb.”

Dylan clicked his tongue. “I should’ve choked you with the umbilical cord. What a wasted opportunity.”

“I’m telling Mom.”

One side of Dylan’s mouth pulled up. “She’d agree with me.”

“Boy, Ford and Erin have really changed you. Though, despite the effort, you’re still not funny.”

“What do you want, Dayne? Is it important? Or are you in here to waste my time?”

“And mine,” Dani added.

“You could leave at any time, sis,” Dayne suggested. “No one’s making you stay.”

She tapped a finger against her bottom lip. “I don’t know. You look a little green around the gills. Is it an STD? Did you knock up one of the guests and need to take a paternity test?”

Dylan’s expression turned from amused to serious in a flash. “You better not be spreading shit around this resort. And if you?—”

“I didn’t!” exploded from Dayne. “Don’t listen to her. She’s only jealous she’s not getting laid.”

Dani’s expression twisted. “How do you know?”

“We all live in the same house.”

“Who says I can only have sex in the house? Why would I want to bring anyone home and risk them meeting you two boneheads?”

“ Are you banging someone?” Dayne asked.

Dani rolled her hazel eyes. “Like I would tell you.”

Dylan leaned back in his office chair and sighed. “Good. I don’t need to hear whether our baby sister is or isn’t having sex.” His gaze landed back on Dayne. “Why are you broken?”

Dayne’s eyes flicked from Dylan to Dani and back to Dylan. Did he really want to reveal what he was about to reveal with his sister in the same room?

Would it matter? She’d probably find out eventually, anyway. It was difficult to hide anything from his siblings when they all lived in the same residence.

For now, anyway. Once Ford finished building their house along the back of the three-hundred acres, his brother, Ford, and Erin would be moving out of the farmhouse.

Dayne shook his thoughts free when Dylan shouted his name.

“I’m not sure if you noticed that I’ve been alone at the breakfast table for the last couple of weeks.”

Dylan glanced at Dani for a second before turning his attention back to Dayne. “Hard to miss.”

“So, it is an STD?” Dani fought the amusement on her face but failed. “Is it chlamydia?”

“Jesus, Danica! No.”

Her eyes bugged out. “Herpes?”

“No! It’s not a damn STD. This is why I didn’t want you in here.”

“What is it, then?” Dylan asked.

“A couple of weeks ago, I only had sex with the same two people for a whole week.”

Dani gasped dramatically and slapped a hand over her mouth. “ Nooooo ! That’s horrific!”

Dayne ignored her.

Dylan’s eyebrows pinched together. “Okay? So what?”

“So what?” Dayne practically shouted. “Have you ever known me to do that?”

Dylan’s eyes rolled toward the ceiling for a few seconds, as if he was searching his memory. When he looked at Dayne again, Dylan simply answered, “Not that I can recall. ”

“Right. A whole damn week with the same two people and now I’m broken.”

“I still don’t understand how you’re broken,” Dylan said calmly. Too calmly, like this wasn’t an emergency.

“I’m struggling to be interested in anyone else.”

“Give it time,” his brother suggested.

“Time?” burst from Dayne. “It usually takes me less than twenty-four hours to move on. It’s been… two … damn … weeks . I haven’t had sex since they checked-out and left.”

“Who are they , brother?” Dani asked.

“Their names don’t matter.”

“Apparently, they do to you,” Dylan murmured.

He was right. Heath and Cara mattered to him. “I need your advice on what to do in this scenario.”

“Go have sex with someone else,” Dani suggested with a shrug. “Isn’t that what you’d normally do?”

“ Nothing is normal in this situation. I can’t stop thinking about them. I can’t even look at anyone else. I haven’t even been up to Heaven. Not once since then.”

“Okay, you were right. You’re broken,” Dani said. “Just go dig a grave and jump in. Your life as you know it is now over.”

Dayne ignored his sister again and kept his eyes on Dylan. “What do I do?”

“I think you have me—a humble architect—confused with a psychologist. Totally different college degree, dude.”

“I simply need advice from my brother. I’m afraid I’m turning into you.”

Dylan frowned. “What does that mean?”

“You’re locked in a committed relationship and no longer have your sexual freedom.”

“We have sexual freedom.”

“As long as you clear it with your partners first. That’s not freedom. Those are chains.”

Dani sighed loudly. “Oh…my…God…Dayne! You’re an idiot. Dylan must’ve got all the brains when Mom’s egg split in two.”

“And I got all the brawn. In my cock.”

“We already know that’s not true,” Dylan answered dryly.

Dani made a choking sound. “I prefer to think of you two as eunuchs, thank you very much.”

“Okay, so you’re broken,” Dylan continued. “What do you want from me?”

“Advice.”

“About?”

“How to fix it.”

Dylan shook his head. “Fix what?”

“My desire for the same two people and my lack of desire for anyone but those same…two…people!”

Dylan stared across his desk at him with pursed lips. Then he threw his head back and laughed and laughed and fucking laughed some more.

Dayne sighed. “I don’t find it funny.”

Dani tsked. “Poor baby. He’s gone and fallen just like Dylan.”

“I haven’t fallen. It was only one damn week.”

Dani lifted a single eyebrow. “But that week changed everything, didn’t it?”

“No, it—” Dayne scraped his fingers through his hair. “Shit.”

“Maybe you simply clicked with…who are these people?” Dylan asked.

Dani followed up with, “The two you sat together with at dinner every night a couple of weeks ago?”

Should he admit it? “The same.”

“She was very pretty and he was smoking hot. Cara and Heath, right? I thought it was weird you shared dinner with them every night. I figured it had to do with investments or finances, or something, since they didn’t join us for breakfast every morning.

Now I know they are just as damaged as you since they voluntarily spent a whole week with you. ”

Dayne once again ignored his sister and focused on his twin sitting behind the desk. “So, what do I do? Force myself to move on by grabbing someone else and having sex with them?” Maybe that would push them from his mind and end this crazy obsession.

“Mom’s better at giving advice than I am.”

“I’m not asking Mom!”

Dani giggled next to him. “Why don’t you invite them back to the resort? Spend some more time with them and see if it was a fluke.”

That was actually a good idea but he wasn’t telling his sister that.

The only issue would be comping them rooms in the lodge.

They needed paying customers to keep the resort running, especially since they were still trying to recover their investments.

“If I invite them, I don’t feel right charging them. ”

Dylan’s answer surprised him. “Then don’t.”

“You want them taking up two rooms that could be filled with paying customers?” That couldn’t be right.

“No. But they could stay with you.”

Dayne grimaced.

“Did you have any doubts about them while they were here?” Dylan asked next.

“No.” If he did, he wouldn’t be in this predicament.

“Then it shouldn’t be an issue, right? And on the chance you find out they aren’t compatible with you and them staying with you gets awkward, I’m sure we can find temporary accommodations for them elsewhere. ”

He considered his brother’s suggestion. He could invite them up for a weekend since they both lived within driving distance. Either could easily leave if things didn’t work out and they found their week together had been a fluke.

No matter what, he needed to do something, anything , to figure out why he couldn’t forget either of them. It was like an obsession. Or an addiction. He thought about them constantly.

Maybe if they came back for a weekend, he’d find something about them that would turn him off. Something, anything that would show that they weren’t as compatible as he thought.

Another visit could be a good dose of reality.

For all three of them.
