Malachi #2

I stand and give him a dirty look, “Don’t call me boy.

” I snarl, cracking my knuckles. I clench my fist before relaxing my hands.

As much as I want to knock the look off his face, I can’t.

“Tch. Whatever, can I go?” I ask, rolling my eyes.

I still have time to shower this place off of me before I have to be at work if I leave now. .

He waved me off, “Don’t do it, Maddox, let it go,” were his parting words to my back as I left. I can’t get out of there fast enough.

Slinging the probation office door open, I step onto the sidewalk, pulling my phone from my pocket as the door slams behind me. I text Ollie to let him know that I’m gonna head home for a shower before my shift, but that I should still be on time. His thumbs up is all the response I need.

I shoot Kai a text asking him to come see me at the store before he heads home after school. It’s early enough that Mack should still be sleeping. I need to see him to re-center after that weird meeting.

It’s as I’m getting dressed that I hear a knock on my door. I turn to see Nik entering my room. “What’s the point of knockin’ if ya ain’t gonna wait for me to respond, Jackass?” I ask him.

He rolls his eyes, “I need a favor and you owe me one anyway.” He states as he crosses his arms over his chest.

‘God, he is such a mini Mack, gross,’ I think, shuddering at the thought.

“I don’t see how I owe you, but what?” I ask as I grab my backpack and throw it on my shoulder, “Make it quick, I gotta go.”

“You need to cover my day shift tomorrow. I’ll do your night shift, but I need a day to sleep in and I wanna go out tonight.” Nik says, rubbing the back of his neck.

I stand there standing at him, “Dude, you really have to ask me to do this tonight? I have plans tonight, too.”

“Do it or I'll tell Dad about your plans,” Nik says with a sneer.

‘Blyad. He has me there.’ I think, taking a deep breath, “Fine, I’ll do it. Just don’t forget to show up tomorrow to relieve Ollie.” He nods and heads out the door. I follow behind, heading out the door to make my shift.

A couple hours later, the bell goes off on the door. I look up and find my Kitten dressed in those damn fatigues. I don’t think the uniform will ever get old. Just by seeing him I feel a calm wash over me. He looks around and I point to the back corner of the store.

My eyes track him across the store before I move to follow. He looks around, eyes snapping to me as I pull him into my arms when I’m within reach. “Are you sure about this?” he asks, wrapping his arms around me, laying his cheek on top of my head.

“Yeah, I’m sure. You’re not stayin’ long, I just had a weird check in with my PO. I needed this, needed you,” I mumble into his chest, inhaling his scent as I feel the weirdness of the day melt away.

He pulls back, sliding his finger tips along my throat, stopping under my chin to tip my head up. Smiling softly, eyes light, he whispers, “I like this, like, a lot.”

He leans in to kiss me and I go up on tip toes to meet his lips. ‘I didn’t used to have to do this,’ I think, sliding my lips over and nipping at his jaw before returning to his lips. I could kiss him for hours.

“Me too,” I whisper, lips brushing against his as we break the kiss. “But you gotta go. I’ll see you tonight as soon as I can get there.”

Giving me a chaste kiss, Kai steps back, nodding before he goes to grab a pop.

“See ya soon,” he says with a wink as he walks backwards out the door.

Sighing as he leaves my eyeline, I needed that brief five minutes with him after everything today.

Sitting back behind the counter, I smile, remembering that tonight is our one month anniversary.

Feeling lighter than I had since leaving my PO’s office, I go back to the sketch I was working on, a field of wild flowers. Someday I’ll take him somewhere that I could pick him a bunch of real ones, but for now, this will have to do.

The night passes with only a few interruptions to do my actual job.

As I add the finishing touches, I stretch out my cramping hands.

It’s been so long since I got lost in drawing, I didn’t notice it had gotten dark out.

Looking at the clock on the wall, I realize the time and start packing up my stuff as the bell rings.

Not looking up from my backpack, I holler, “Nice of you to be on time for a change.” After zipping up my bag I look up to see, not Mack, but Zak standing just inside the door.

Zakhary

“Fuck, I’m sorry. I thought…” Maddox apologizes nervously.

‘He has manners and is smart enough to be nervous even in knowing that I am to protect him,’ I think, smirking as the kid stumbles over his words, I shake my head waving him off.

“No harm. But I would advise you check who is walking in, for the future,” I say, rolling a toothpick around between my lips.

Dax nods and places his bag on the counter, he sits behind the counter, watching the clock, checking his phone, eyes darting around. He’s anxious and I notice he’s bouncing his leg, fidgety, like he can’t sit still.

He starts messing around on his phone, as I ask, “You okay over there?”

Dax stopped typing, looked up at me, eyes darting towards the clock again, “As I can be.” he says, eyes meeting mine.

“Tonight’s our anniversary, Kitten made plans for us.

He actually got everyone outta the house or in bed so we could have some time for just us.

I don’t wanna mess this up by bein’ late.

Though he already knows it’s a possibility with Mack. ”

Looking at my watch, I see that it is 11:15. I tap my finger on my chin, leaning on the counter. “Go, I will wait for Mack. It is him I am here to see anyway,” I tell him with a shrug.

Dax jumped up and grabbed his bag, “Are you sure?? Mack’ll be pissed if I’m not here when he shows up,” he asks half way across the store on his way to the door.

“I am sure. I do not give a fuck about him being pissed. Leave Mack to me,” I say as I texted Tomas that Dax needed a ride to his Kitten’s place. “Meet Tomas outside, he will give you ride. Enjoy tonight,” I tell him, winking at him as he headed out the door.

I watched from the door as Tomas pulled up, Mack was walking up and saw him getting into the car. “Where the fuck do you think you’re goin’ you little shit?” He screamed, “Get back here, fucker!!”.

‘Too bad for you, Mack,’ I think as I open the door and motion for him to come in. “Forget that, I told him to go,” I say, an unfriendly smile on my face, “Apparently we need to have another little chat,” I explain while holding the door open for him and Grigory. ‘This is gonna be a fun night.’

Maddox

Sitting in the car with Tomas was weird, he’s so quiet. When we pulled up in front of Kai’s house without me saying a word, I just have to ask, “How did you know?”

Tomas flashes me a mischievous grin in the rearview mirror, “Do not ask questions you do not really want answer to, ponyatno?”

I scratched my eyebrow and looked at him, ‘yeah I really don’t want to know, it’s cool.

I’m good,’ I think, fumbling for the door handle.

“Da, thanks for the ride. I’m just gonna show myself out,” I say as I open the door, hearing him chuckle behind me as I climb out of the car and shut the door.

As the car pulls off, I look up to find Kai waiting for me on the porch.

He looked fresh outta the shower, his curls a little darker red and looser from the water.

The gray sweats sat low on his hips, his chest was bare.

As my eyes traced water droplets racing down freckled skin, he did the thing.

He reached up and grabbed the roof of the porch, stretching his already tall built body out even longer, putting that lickable V-cut on display.

Staring at my newly filled out Kitten on display in front of me, glistening in the porch light, muscles tightening and making it hard to breathe.

I could feel my mouth moving, but no sound was coming out.

I could barely swallow so, of course, speaking wasn’t gonna happen.

The smirk on his face as his eyes took in my reaction wasn’t helping anything either.

I take my time walking toward him, committing this image to memory.

‘My Kitten is sexy and I dare any mother fucker to touch what’s mine again,’ I think as I climb up the stairs, stopping when I was standing directly in front of him.

A weak “Hi” is all I manage to croak out before he crashes our lips together, pulling me into him.

Breaking the kiss he trails soft kisses up my jaw line to my ear. I feel the slight smile on his lips as his breath fans lightly across the shell of my ear when he whispers, “Hi.”

Stepping back, he takes my hand, lacing our fingers together, pulling me inside.

On our way to the kitchen, I drop my backpack on the couch as we pass through the living room.

Releasing my hand, he motions for me to sit at the table while he grabs our plates from the oven where he’s been keeping them warm.

The smell of fried chicken hits my nose as he sits my plate in front of me. I pull the aluminum foil off it. Kai sits down next to me and we dig in, making small talk about our day. As we talk and touch and laugh all the stuff with Mack and Daniels is forgotten.

‘The perfect distraction from the messes that my dad creates,’ I think, knocking his hand with mine to get his attention, “Before I forget, I have to leave a little earlier than usual. I have to replace Mack at 5 a.m. Nik’s threatenin’ to tell Mack if I don’t,” I say, taking another bite of potatoes before I continue, “Don’t know what he thinks he knows, but I’d rather not find out. ”

Kai snorts, “Okay. There’s somethin’ we need to talk about tonight, too.”

I give him a look, “Talk? You’re sittin’ here shirtless and you think I wanna talk?” I ask, bouncing my eyebrows as I curl my tongue, licking my teeth.
