Chapter Sixteen
Hayes
I should not have done it. I should have just left her alone and let her go to bed.
But a virgin?
I could not let her memory of her first time be with someone who did not care.
Not that I do—but her safety is a priority, as it is with all the women.
Had Dante had his way with her, he would have shared her around to other men. She would have been a breeding machine with no respect from anyone.
Not that the things I did to her were respectful either, but it was a lot better than those fuckers would have been.
My mother’s voice rings in my ear. “You cherish women, Hayes. They are the only ones who can make another you. They are the ones who need the respect. The man may be the head of the home, but his women is his Queen, and the Queen always has the final say.”
I smile; my mother was the best Queen for my father. So respectful and classy.
The women at the club and the Hope House all loved her and she was the first one to go to bat for them when my father was not in a good mood.
“I do not really like the thought of spending your money.” Olivia’s voice snaps me out of my thoughts.
I turn towards her; unsure I heard her right.
“Huh?” I question her.
“I do not feel right spending your money. I mean, it’s just material things, Hayes. I do not care for any of it anymore.” She says gesturing to the Dior store we are standing in.
We both slept until ten o clock this morning and once we woke, I had Alan bring Olivia some clothes, and we went out on our shopping and lunch date.
I have brought her to 5 th Avenue which is also considered “Millionaires Row”. All the luxury stores and restaurants are within walking distance.
“This was the prize for winning the contest, Olivia. Get whatever you want.” I tell her.
She looks around, her eyes scanning the selections, then she looks at me, “I have a better idea,” she says and walks out of the store as I follow her, intrigued.
“Are there homeless shelters around here? Or an animal shelter?” she asks me.
I cock an eyebrow at her. “Both.”
“Let’s go take food or clothes to them,” she says and it’s all I can do to hide my grin.
This woman is unlike any other I have ever met. I was right the other night; my mother would have loved her.
“You are telling me you have Louis Vuitton, Dior, Chanel, and all these other stores to spend my money at and you want to get things for others instead?” I ask.
She nods, her eyes looking at the ground, embarrassed.
“Well, pick a restaurant and we will order everything from their menu and pick a store and I’ll buy out their entire place for us to have everything sent to them.” I tell her.
Her body clashes into me and her arms go around me in a big bear hug.
My brain misfires and I’m shocked for a moment. My arms stay clasped at my sides, unsure what to do. No one has hugged me like this since my parents.
“Thank you, Hayes!” she exclaims pulling back from me. “Can we get blankets, too? It’s about to be cooler outside. Also, stop and get some baby food, too?” she questions.
“Whatever you want to get,” I assure her, trying not to show my emotions. This woman has hit my heart strings.
She beams, “There may be a ticket into heaven for you after all.”
I shake my head, no. “No good deeds after all the hell I’ve done will get me in there. I’ll always belong to the Underworld.”
She is quiet for a moment. “Well, save me a seat next to you.”
“Why?” I ask, stunned and curious.
She giggles. “Because I had the King of the Underworld’s dick in my mouth last night. I do not think I will get away with that from the man upstairs.”
I chuckle. “Touché.”
