Gills

I answered, thinking somethin’ was wrong due to the time. “Journei, what’s wrong?”

“Where are you, Journei?”

“Aye, white boy. The fuck is the name of this bar… I’m at Drunken Fish. I think they gon’ steal my car ’cause I’m perfectly fine.”

“I’ll be there in a minute. Journei, please wait for me.”

“Where I’m goin’ if the muthafucka took my damn keys, Christian? You have got to be the dumbest—” She hung up midsentence.

She was drunk, but from what Hunz told me, she only did it once a year, and that was for her birthday. She was goin’ through a heartbreak and using things she despised as a coping mechanism. Somebody needed to help, as well as be there for her.

I got dressed and headed down the street.

Drunken Fish was a few blocks over from me.

If she weren’t drunk, we would’ve walked to enjoy the fresh air.

When I pulled up, I saw Journei’s Wraith parked on the street.

I only knew it was hers because it was parked out front when I left Hunz crib that night.

Getting her and her keys were my only objectives.

I got out and headed inside. She was sitting at the bar, sippin’ on a drink that she didn’t need. Walking up to her stool, I stood behind her, then wrapped my right arm around her waist and spoke low into her ear. “Time to go, beautiful.”

Instead of gettin’ up, she leaned into me, making my heart involuntarily skip a beat. She didn’t know the power she held over me. Her perfume was intoxicating and starting to dominate my senses. That soft hand touched my arm, sending those currents I felt that night to my core once more.

“Gills, you came. I knew you would. Here, take a shot with me.” She offered me a glass that I declined.

“I don’t drink, beautiful, and neither do you. Let’s go.” I tapped her on the hip for her to make a move.

“We can go after you take a shot. Until then, get comfortable.”

I hadn’t had a drink since I was eighteen years old. Alcohol wasn’t for me, and I judged no one who indulged in it. I unwrapped my arm, then took a step back. That caused her to turn around with an attitude and aggression.

“You know what I am, and what you’re asking isn’t fair. That’s not me, Journei.”

She rolled her eyes and hopped off the barstool. The amount of alcohol she consumed left her with no balance. As soon as her feet hit the floor, her body tried to follow suit. I caught her and picked her up. The bartender handed over her keys without me asking, shaking his head.

We walked out with her kissing and sucking on my neck the whole time. Her lips felt good against my skin, but Journei knew that wasn’t how I went about things, and she disregarded everything I said. I gently placed her in my car and shut the door. My prayers were verbal that time instead of silent.

“I need you to lead me away from temptation. Strengthen what’s weak in me, Lord. The devil is working tonight.”

I hopped in and asked her for the address where she was staying. She was too drunk to remember. Taking Journei back to my place left no room to steer clear of tempted ways. Regret was settling in the second I made my decision. I wanted to keep an eye on her, so my condo was our only option.

Journei and Hunz were definitely best friends. Three blocks took us thirty minutes. She threw up every few feet, and aggravation was riding shotgun at that point. When we made it back to the crib, it was after four. Déjà vu occurred too much around Journei.

I carried her from the parking deck to inside of my condo.

Thankfully, that time, she was asleep, leaving her no choice to keep her mouth to herself.

I wouldn’t disrespect her and touch her without permission, so I laid her down in my bed fully clothed.

It amazed me how a person under the influence could go into a slumber so quickly.

With Journei in my bed, I had to take the couch.

It pulled out into a bed that came in handy for times like that.

I stripped down to my natural born and laid down.

This mattress wasn’t nearly as comfortable as the one Journei occupied.

My back was gon’ feel it in the morning.

I closed my eyes attempting to get a few more hours of sleep before the sun came up.

“Christian… ssshit. Christian, fuck me back.”

I knew the attraction between me and Journei was strong but not strong enough to where she invaded my dreams. I hadn’t had an erotic dream in years, and even then, it didn’t seem as real as that one. I swear I could feel how wet and warm Journei was.

“Get… mmm, up, Christian. This is too good to miss.”

The request for me to get up had me fully awake.

My eyes shot open to Journei riding my shaft.

That was so wrong, but she felt so right.

She was married, and I was… loving the tight grip her walls were providing.

I palmed her cheeks and enjoyed the skin-to-skin contact she granted me. I was slowly gettin’ lost in her canal.

What we were doin’ hit me like a ton of bricks. “Journei, stop. We can’t do this.”

My words went ignored, and I felt the strength I reeled in being pulled away once again. As long as she was on top, she had control. The motions of her body put me under a trance while her soft moans challenged me to get deeper within her.

I flipped her over to gain some type of dominance in the already messed-up situation.

Flipping her over caused more damage than her being on top.

Her legs were around my waist and locked.

She wasn’t gon’ let me remove myself willingly.

I truthfully didn’t want to, but it was somethin’ that had to be done.

I delivered strokes so deadly that her nails were digging into my skin, scratching me up.

I was taking her pain as she was taking mine.

Her legs had yet to unlock. Journei was handling me like a champ, making me lose focus.

I needed to separate our bodies before I let loose, placing my kids in her womb.

“Journei, please unlock your legs,” I pleaded, speeding up the pace of my strokes. I knocked on her spot several times before she answered.

“For wh… aaahhh! Christian, I’m cumminnnn’!”

“Man, fuck.”

The grip, plus the fluids she released against my shaft, brought my old ways out. The last time I cursed was over six years ago. Journei somehow took on the role of being my dangerous weakness. Everything I felt for her was rushing to the tip of my manhood.

Journei unlocked her legs and held on to the sheet. I used that opportunity to swiftly detach from her. I didn’t wait for her to fuss about my actions or persuade me into continuing. I went straight for the shower, not givin’ the water time to adjust to the set temperature.

I stood there while the last thirty minutes played back in my head. We should’ve never gotten that far. Better yet, it should’ve never happened.

The shower door slid back, and Journei stepped inside. Distance seemed to be a nonfactor for her. She went to touch me, and I moved out of her reach. I wasn’t myself when she was around as is. Letting her skin connect with mine drained any willpower I had by the second.

“Christian, this is more than an attraction, and you know it. My reaction to you is somethin’ I still don’t understand, but why do I feel like everything in me is crying for you?”

When I faced her, tears were streaming. I could see the internal battle etched on her face. I couldn’t answer her question, ’cause I had yet to find the solution. I’d been asking myself that question from the day we were formally introduced.

Journei’s beauty was in a lane of its own. I stared at her as we stood bare in the shower together. What she wanted and needed in life, I could provide. I saw a woman who gave more than she got and endured more pain than any person was supposed to. However, she was already the wife to someone else.

“I—”

One word. She allowed me to get off one word before her lips cut off what I had to say. She pressed her body into mine, taking back her authority. My hands went to her backside, scooping her up in my arms.

The minute she felt the cold tile against her back, those soft legs locked around my waist, securing me in place. She slid down on my shaft, and I was her puppet. Whatever string she pulled from there on out was on her.
