Chapter 41
Jamison
“Yes,” I say, answering the call and placing it on speaker. I motion for everyone else to be silent.
“Cellar,” a voice states before a second voice repeats him.
“Who the fuck is this?” I ask, irritably.
“Who are you?” Voice two asks.
Voice one cuts him off with a growl. “Don’t answer that fucking question. The Triad do not reveal themselves.”
“Is he dead?” Voice two asks.
“If you're asking if Lockhart is dead,” I reply in a bored tone. “I blew his head off earlier today.”
Somebody hisses over the line while the other chuckles.
“Do you know of the Triad? Do you know of the rules? You kill one of us, you take our place.”
“And if I refuse?” I ask, casually leaning back into the couch.
“Refusal isn’t an option.” Voice one states.
“The way I see it, you don’t know me, so refusal doesn’t sound so bad. I want nothing to do with The Cellar,” I grit out.
“You don’t know what you’re doing!” Voice two exclaims. “You will disrupt The Triad. There must always be three. You are putting many others in jeopardy.”
“I don’t give a fuck. Lockhart is dead. If you call this number again, I will make sure your so-called Triad dies too. I will make my way back to The Cellar, and this time, I will make sure the entire place burns to the ground.”
“So you refuse?” Voice one asks.
I look around the room to see everyone staring at me, anticipating what I will say next before speaking back into the phone. “I refuse.”
“You have no idea what you have just done,” voice two responds before the line goes dead.
“Well, that was ominous,” Jonathan pipes in jokingly.
Xavier laughs, “I don’t know about you guys, but I think we should celebrate. Lockhart is dead. Who gives a fuck what happens to The Triad now.”
“Yes!” Corrine and Riley both respond together.
Kaz looks up at me with soft eyes before turning to my brother.
“I think I agree,” Jonathan says, looking from Kaz to me. “A celebration is in order. How about the club next weekend, Xavier? I heard there’s going to be another masked event.”
Corrine giggles and looks at Riley, who turns a bright shade of red.
“Little Mouse,” Sebastian whispers in her ear. “I know how much you love wearing a mask.”
Everyone bursts out laughing, except for Eve, who is completely in the dark. Kaz takes it upon herself to tell her the story, making Eve giggle as well. Eventually Kaz and Ben move to the patio by themselves. I want so badly to grab her and take her to my room, hiding her from everyone. It takes everything in my power not to steal her away but I know she needs this. If Ben was into women, she most certainly wouldn’t be out there with him, alone. My patience can only go so far. I make arrangements for Ben to stay with Sebastian and Riley while Eve stays with us. I’ve already put in the call for an available apartment in our building for Ben but I will have to call in the morning for a second one for Eve.
After what feels like hours, everyone finally leaves and I watch as Kaz helps my mother to Jonathan’s room giving her a place to sleep for the evening. I’m at my computer, with Jonathan casually sitting up in my bed, when Kaz returns. She hovers by the door nervously causing me to look up from my work.
“Are you sure this is okay?” She gestures to my bed with Jonathan laying in it.
“You have been in my bed already, Kitten,” I say with a smirk.
Her hands are clasped together and she’s moving her fingers back and forth, looking down at them. “Yes but, umm, not all of us together.”
I motion for her to go to my bed and follow behind her. Jonathan pulls the covers back allowing her to slide in beside him. She lays her head on his chest as I slide in behind her and wrap my arm around her. My brother kisses Kaz's forehead gently. The motion makes me grateful he’s here with us. My other half. His light, my dark and her softness.
‘It could never be any other way ,’ I think, as Jonathan turns the light off and slides down under the covers. His arm wraps over mine, encasing Kaz between us, as we all drift off to sleep together.
