LAST SUMMER
When they arrived, I stayed on the porch, feeling a little too fragile to get in the middle of everyone milling around the car.
A stranger got out of the front passenger seat of Rory’s SUV.
Simon the vampire. He was skinny, too skinny by far, but gorgeous with long auburn hair.
The vampire who’d grabbed me and the one who’d tried to kill me had both been tall and muscular.
Simon had the tall part down, but a stiff wind would’ve taken him out.
Ms. Jackson was in the form of a black panther, and I gave them the biggest thank you hug I could manage.
Then we watched Rory pull an unconscious Ellis out of the car by the shoulders.
Levi stepped up to help, grabbing both legs.
As soon as Shane got out of the car, he took Ellis all by himself, carrying him up the steps and into the house.
Ellis’s throat was covered in several cuts, but when they got him under the light in the living room, his color was decent so I didn’t think he’d lost too much blood.
Rory was relieved to see me standing upright, and I gave him a quick half-hug before he followed Shane into the guest bedroom, shutting the door firmly behind them. Looked like the three of them were in a relationship after all.
At least something good had come out of this awful day.
