Chapter 40

SAWYER

S omething is wrong. Ivy’s phone is off and going straight to voicemail. I should have asked her to keep it on. She left to do the final walk-through at her parents’ house and hand over the keys an hour ago, and hasn’t returned. I offered to go with her, but she said she needed to do it alone. My chest starts to ache and my fist lifts to press against the spot above my heart. I need to get to her. I feel it.

I grab my phone to dial Reid when an incoming call comes in from Dallas. I click to answer as I’m slipping into my leather jacket and slamming my door behind me.

“Talk to me.”

“Wes just got back to me, man. Where’s Ivy?”

“I’m on my way to her right now, something’s off. She’s at her parents’ house but her phone is off. Something doesn’t feel right.”

“Fuck. I’m calling Reid! Brooks is here! He’s in AR!”

“What!?” I roar.

But the call isn’t connected anymore. I start up my bike and I’m fucking gone, pushing it to its absolute limit. Fear like I’ve never felt before takes over. Fuck. Fuck. Fuck!

I’ll never forgive myself if something happens to her.
