Adonis

I watch as the girls walk away, Lillian looks back at me and I smile at her, letting her know I’m ok. She nods and walks away with them, I look over to the boys,

“Who told him this is where we would be?”

I demanded my voice growing deeper with anger.

“We didn’t tell him anything, he just showed up,” Noah says, and I look over to Liam who is all but quiet.

“Liam did you-”

He then cuts Noah off.

“I didn’t know he would show up.”

I close my eyes trying to focus on not ripping his fucking head off. If we weren’t around all these people right now, I’d shoot this mother fucker, but I can’t shoot one of my best friends no matter how mad I am at them.

“Why?”

With one word, Liam grew rigged. He knew I was furious, and he knew what he did was unacceptable.

“I just wanted him to know we were still trying to comple-”

I punched him square in the jaw. He staggers back and looks at me taken aback. I shake my fist from the impact and look at both of them.

“We NEVER tell my father anything understood. Unless the mission has been completed, he remains out of the loop. Because next time Liam it won’t be my fist that hits you, it’ll be a bullet and you know,”

I get closer to him and look dead in the eyes “I never miss” Liam nods and Noah looks disappointed in him. I sigh and roll my eyes.

“Now, fix your face, let's go find the girls,”

I say and Liam nods.

“I’m sorry,”

He says as we start to walk, I look over at him, and for fuck’s sake he looks like a wounded puppy. I punch his shoulder,

“Just remember what I said and don’t double-cross me next time,”

I tell him and he nods.

We looked for the girls and that's when I spotted the familiar sapphire crown, all the tension I had in my body and all the anger started to melt away when I saw her. She was looking at a necklace, I followed her gaze and noticed a Moss Agate necklace.

It was in a teardrop shape and her eyes began to light up. I walk over to her slowly and put my arm around her waist, she looks startled but then settles once she sees it’s me.

“Hi,”

She says with her beaming smile; she reaches for my face, and I let myself sink into it. The effect this woman has on me, and she doesn’t even know it kills me. Guilt starts to creep in, and I open my eyes again and pull my face away.

“That’s a pretty necklace, you like it?”

I ask her, she smiles and looks back down at it,

“Yes, anything Moss Agate I love, it’s my favorite stone.”

I smile at her and look at the necklace again and could see it closer now. It was in fact in the shape of a teardrop, it was surrounded by a diamond-encrusted circle, and it shined just as bright as she did.

“Sir, I would like to buy this and the matching earrings for this lovely lady please.”

The merchant nods and starts to wrap up the jewelry, Lillian looks at me in shock.

“No, you can't, it costs too much, that's nearly 10,000 dollars, !”

She says in a faint voice; I smile at her.

“This is nothing but pocket change Lillypad,”

I tell her as I caress her face, she takes a moment to process what I had said.

“Fine, but I want to get you something too!”

She tells me and then as if she has an idea. She reaches into her bag she got from the previous shop earlier.

“Um, I well I don’t have much money but Maybe you’ll like this.”

she takes my hand and places something on my wrist, she lets my hand go, and there in place of her hand is a bracelet, I normally don’t wear jewelry but her face was shining like a thousand diamonds, and I couldn’t help but fall in love with it, I look closely at the bracelet and see it is in the shape of a serpent. Ha, how fitting for someone like me.

“It’s um it’s j?rmungandr,”

She says to me, and I look at her confused,

“Uh it’s Norse mythology he’s said to be a huge serpent that binds the world together,”

She tells me with a small smile,

“Just like you’ve bonded my world together with yours,”

I tell her and a red started to creep on her cheeks and I couldn’t help but chuckle. I bend down and look her in the eyes,

“Thank you Lillypad I love it,”

I told her. She smiles and the merchant returns with the jewelry, and I take it from him and nod. We start to head to where everyone is, and we see the girls laughing at Liam who seems to have taken a big bite of a frozen cheesecake and is now suffering from brain freeze.

We join them and continue on our day at the festival. The entire time I can’t stop watching Lillian as she is the center of attention with her gown and crown.

We were waiting in line for a funnel cake when she saw a little girl with a princess outfit smiling at her, nudging her mom, and saying Look mom, it's a princess.

The mother was smiling and nodding at her, and Lillian curtseys at the little girl and pats her head and the little girl's eyes lit up like the 4th of July.

At that moment I knew I couldn’t do this, I couldn’t do this, I would protect her no matter what it costs. Even if it cost me my life, I will always protect her.
