Chapter 9

Chapter Nine

Edward fastened his shipsuit before he headed out of the cockpit. He could still feel her hands and her lips on him, burning a trail that went far deeper than the skin she'd touched. A little lower and she'd have been riding him, he was certain of it, to the very peak of shared pleasure.

If that stars-crossed alarm hadn't sounded, reminding them that he had responsibilities. And that what he wanted most was forbidden.

It took the whole agonising walk back to the galley, thinking hard about the icy cold vacuum of space, before he had himself under control again, and the shipsuit wasn't so tight down there that he winced on every step any more.

For a moment there, when that rock had blocked out everything on the viewscreen, he'd been certain he was going to die. Yet Sinclair had been as cool and calm as space itself, blasting it out of her way as if she was just shooing away a fly.

If he'd been attracted to her before…stars, his attraction had exploded into full-blown love in that moment. He'd never met another woman like her, and he wasn't sure he wanted to. Prisoner or not, she was perfection itself.

Ow ow ow…space. The cold vacuum of space, he told himself sternly, as even just the thought of her had things stirring again.

When he finally got to the privacy of his bunk tonight, or, better yet, the shower, he was going to have a long session with his hand, until he'd gotten all this out of his system. No matter how much he wanted her, she was still a prisoner, and off limits.

He found the crew had already reached the galley ahead of him, but they didn't notice him arrive, because they were all staring at the wallscreen.

Comms were starting to trickle in from Tito, and the news wasn't good.

Fighting in the streets between robots and humans. Explosions everywhere. Buildings falling and a blurry shot of the president's bloodied body flashed past.

"What's happened?" he blurted out, barely believing his eyes. It was a movie. It had to be a movie. Some crazy action film featuring an unimaginable disaster…

"It's Titania. She's finally snapped, and she's taking over," Virtue said. "It's just like Sin's always said. If she's not stopped, the Central Intelligence will kill us all."

Edward expected panic to erupt at her statement, but the only one who wasn't staring grimly at the screen was him. It was almost like they'd all expected this to happen.

"But that's preposterous," Edward spluttered.

Virtue shrugged. "Robots have killed the president. People are fleeing the city, heading for the colony ship in space, in any craft that can leave Tito's atmosphere. Sin was right all along."
