Today we found them.

Twenty-two souls living in the shadow of the Mountains of the Moon, cut off from the world in ways I scarcely understand.

They are unlike any people I have encountered.

Taller than any local tribes, pale of skin despite the equatorial sun, with eyes of an extraordinary blue.

Most curious of all—their feet bear only four toes.

They are curiously passive and do not speak. Whether by choice or inability, I cannot yet determine.

I have resolved to bring them home. Scotland will offer sanctuary, protection, and study. I believe history will judge this decision kindly.

Still, I cannot dismiss the feeling that we have altered the course of something we do not yet comprehend.
