Chapter 16 #4

“I mean it,” he keeps going. “You’re gorgeous…

stunning, really. Smart, and funny, and talented.

Caring and loyal, dedicated and kind… You’re just perfect, baby.

There has never been, nor will there ever be, someone as wholly fantastic as you.

” I blink at him, tears pushing behind my eyes that make me feel kind of foolish.

But I can’t help it. “I’m the luckiest man alive, being able to know you… To have you.”

“James…” I whimper, touching his chest, trying to stifle some of this heaviness. His heart is thumping wildly beneath my hand.

“Jess, just listen…” He adjusts his hips and I whimper at the feeling of him, still inside me. He lets out a soft sound. “I want to have you forever…”

He pulls out of me, drawing out a gasp. Then he takes my hand and tugs me until I’m sitting up, my head spinning as the sensation of his cum dripping out of me flushes my cheeks.

“I want to hold you… forever,” he says, his eyes wider than they were a moment ago. “I want to comfort you and care for you… I want to support you, and cherish you. I want only you… always.”

He stops to swallow visibly, sliding off the couch. Onto his knees.

“What are you… doing…” I whisper, lashes fluttering like crazy while my heart leaps in my chest. What’s happening right now…?

“I want you… in sickness and in health.” He ignores me and goes on, holding my hand in his, kneeling on the floor before me.

“In good times and bad. I want you to be my partner for the rest of our lives, Jesse. I want you in every way I could have you… and I just hope that you want the same. Which is why, right now… I want to ask you…”

“Holy crap, I’m gonna faint…” I gasp, and he laughs.

“Baby… Will you marry me?”

My heart has come to a complete stop.

Time is no longer moving… We’re suspended. And I’m just staring down at him, this man who used to be my father, and who is now so much more…

Kneeling on the floor and asking me to be his husband?!

It’s crazy. Completely ridiculous, the most terrifying and incredible thing I’ve ever heard anyone say.

But there’s only one response. There is only one word I could use to answer a question like this…

“Yes,” I croak, with tears immediately flowing down my cheeks. I couldn’t stop them if I wanted to. “Yes… Fuck yea, of course I’ll marry you.”

I launch myself at him.

My heart is soaring behind my ribcage, adrenaline making me all twitchy, my mind running a mile a minute. I’m only ninety percent sure this is actually happening.

But if it is a dream, I never want to wake up.

The man of my dreams just asked me to marry him…

And I said yes.

Holy fuck, we’re engaged!

James is chuckling, all sweet and sexy and nervous while I tackle him to the floor, kissing his neck and face, everywhere my lips can reach. I’ve completely forgotten for a moment that we’re naked, until I feel his dick twitching on my abs.

“Baby…” I sniffle, lifting to look down at him. “You really just proposed to me…?”

He beams, the smile of someone so desperately, almost stupidly in love, covering his face.

Okay, I lied. This is my favorite look on him.

“I did,” he hums, holding my face. “And you said yes.”

I bite my lip. “We’re gonna get married…?”

He nods. “Yea. We are.”

“Fuck…” I whimper, dropping my face back into his neck so he doesn’t see me cry like a total loser.

“We might need to wash out that mouth of yours with soap, kid,” he teases.

“Yea, probably,” I grumble to cover up the shake in my voice. “It’s done some pretty filthy things.”

He laughs out loud, lifting me up and forcing me to look at him. “I’m sorry…”

My brow furrows. “For what?? In case you can’t tell, I’m ecstatic.”

He grins. “No… it’s just… I didn’t plan on asking you like this. While we’re naked and sweaty… post-stupefying orgasm.”

I chuckle. “Were you carried away by the moment…?”

He nods. “Yes. Very much.”

I drop a kiss on his lips. But then I pause. “Wait, so you’ve been planning this?” His eyes sparkle up at me and he bites his lip. “You’ve been… wanting to ask me?”

“Jess,” he hums, thumb grazing my lower lip.

“Of course I have. Being here with you… living this life, this dream… It’s everything I never thought I’d have.

Being truly in love and happy… I didn’t think it was in the cards for me.

I never thought I’d… want to marry someone.

” He stops to breathe out slowly. “But you… You’re a dream come true, baby.

Marrying you would be as easy as breathing. ”

I pout, fighting tooth and nail against the tears of joy that want to keep flowing from my eyes.

“Well, you already know…” I huff, steadying my trembling words.

“I’ve dreamed of you falling in love with me since before I even really knew what it meant.

I didn’t think having you the way I wanted was in the cards…

So now that it is…” My forehead lowers to his. “Marrying you is my dream come true.”

His hands cup my face, and he kisses me, slowly, full of passion; a dedication, an unexpected devotion.

It’s the same way he’s been kissing me for the last year. One whole year, Christmas to Christmas… And here we are.

It started as a mistake we were never supposed to make… and it turned into happily ever after.

With his question, we’ve wiped away the past, the history, and everything holding us back.

We’re no longer a father and his adoptive son. We’re engaged.

We’re going to be husbands.

We have a future, together. The perfect gift for us to unwrap.
