Chapter 6
CHAPTER SIX
Barrett
Now that I had my girl, I wasn’t letting her go.
A week after we met, she moved into my cabin, bringing her cat, Fefe, with her. She brought along all of her knickknacks and decorations, as I didn’t mind. My cabin needed a woman’s touch. It was too bare and plain.
I loved everything about Skylar.
From the way she loved taking baths instead of showers, to making sure she did her skincare routine morning and night and sang to her cat while mixing her dinner or scooping her litter box.
Watching her brush her hair, pick out her outfits for work, and make us lunch to spending all of our free time together and enjoying meals, I fell more and more in love with Skylar with every passing day.
As the Christmas season got underway, we did all the corny Christmasy couple things.
A sleigh ride in the park, followed by window shopping and looking at all the Christmas decors.
The tree lighting ceremony was nice to have someone to keep warm with and Christmas karaoke at the bar in town, Mixer, was a lot more fun with Skylar than alone.
We even met a few other couples and became close with one couple, Lyra and Nolan.
While out shopping for Skylar, I ran into Nolan, and we ended up shopping for our girlfriends together. I scored the laptop Skylar wanted. The price wasn’t nearly as good as the Black Friday sale, but it was worth it.
On the way home, I swung by the jewelers on a hunch. I just wanted to see what they might have and explore the possibility of getting one. In my mind, Skylar was already my wife. I loved her since I the day we met, and I wanted to make her my wife. So, I asked myself, why wait?
I wanted to lock her down now.
An hour later, I walked out of the store with a ring. I should’ve known I would’ve. Now to think of the best way to propose.
With our funny way of meeting, which my family loved hearing about, I wanted to do something good.
There was a cop in town I was friendly with named Ares.
He was the cop who helped me post bail so quickly for Skylar and me, working with both my lawyer and me.
I called him and asked him if he wouldn’t mind doing me a favor.
Sure enough, a plan formed and on Christmas Eve, I’d ask Skylar to be my wife.
The weeks leading up to Christmas were harder than I thought with keeping everything a secret.
But I distracted myself with work, picking up overtime shifts as I usually did during the holidays.
Delivering packages meant long hours and long days, but coming home to Skylar’s smiling face made it all worth it in the end.
Before I knew it, it was Christmas Eve, and I set my plan into motion.
Skylar had a few last-minute errands to run, and Ares planned on approaching her and asking her to come down to the station. I didn’t want to freak her out with getting arrested.
But instead of going to the police station, Ares brought her to me.
I waited in the park, snow gently falling, waiting on bended knee in the center of a heart made of flower petals. When she arrived, Ares handcuffed us both together, Skylar laughing and confused at the same time.
“What the hell is going on? Not this again!” Skylar raised our wrists, the metal shine reflecting in the snow as she giggled nervously. She looked so damn adorable with her long hair, fluffy hat and jacket, and fur boots. My little snow bunny.
“Skylar, since the moment I met you, I liked you. As the night wore on, I fell in love with you. And in the days following, you stole my heart. And now I’m asking you, will you marry me and stay handcuffed to me for the rest of our lives?”
Tears slipped down her cheeks. “Oh my God, yes, Barrett! Yes!” She fell to her knees, not caring about the snow, as I slid the ring on her finger, and we hugged and kissed, not caring about the handcuffs.
Eventually, we resurfaced for air and allowed Ares to remove the cuffs, Skylar jumping into my arms after. She wrapped her legs around my waist as I spun her around and around.
“Merry Christmas, sweetheart. I love you so much.”
“I love you, too. So much.”
When we stood up and brushed the snow off ourselves, Skylar punched me on the shoulder playfully while laughing. “I’ll have you know, you scared the shit out of me!”
I laughed. “I know. But that’s why I didn’t have him cuff you. I figured you’d be even more pissed.”
“Oh my God, Barrett. You’re so lucky I love you!”
“I know I am. And now I get to be your husband.”
“Yes, the word sounds so sexy. Say it again.”
“Your husband.” I pulled her close and ran my hands over her waist and hips and down to her ass, squeezing both cheeks. Then I kissed her, softly at first, growing in intensity, as I devoured her.
I’d never get enough of her. Ever.
We went home and spent Christmas Eve in bliss, drinking eggnog, singing Christmas carols, and finally ending with the two of cuddled on the couch with Fefe while watching Home Alone.
In the morning, I woke up early and cooked us both breakfast. Skylar came downstairs to a full spread of eggs, toast, potatoes, and bacon. We feasted before moving into the living room to open gifts.
We shared gifts for each other and with the cat, Fefe happy to find catnip in her stocking.
When Skylar opened up the laptop, she shrieked and jumped into my arms, the both of us falling backwards as we kissed and hugged.
The next gift I opened?
The same laptop from Skylar.
“I should’ve known you’d get me one too!”
“Of course, babes. After all, we both caused the other one not to get it.”
“That’s right. It was both of us, huh?”
“Yep. But that’s how I want things to always be. Both of us.”
“It will always be the both of us, sweetheart. I promise.” I kissed her lips and sealed my promise to her- she was mine forever.
