“You don’t have to come to bed if you want to spend more time with your brother.”

“Not tonight.” He sits on the giant bed, then lies back. “I want to lie with you.”

“Just lie?” I smile as I climb in after him.

“I will only fuck you if we can both be quiet. And I’m not sure either of us can manage that yet.”

“I wasn’t talking about having sex.” My snicker is cut off by a yawn as I wiggle myself into his side. “I was teasing you about saying you’d lie with me, not sleep.”

His hum of understanding vibrates against my body. “Vampires don’t sleep much.”

“Oh? I don’t think I knew that.” I try to think if I’ve ever heard that before, but after eating the giant cheese sandwich Nix made me, I can hardly keep my eyes open, let alone think.

“A couple hours a month is the usual. More if one is recovering from an injury.”

“Huh.”

Vameer is quiet. But I feel like he wants to say more.

I lift my head so I can look at him.

He holds my gaze.

I flatten my hand on his chest. “You can tell me.”

Vameer hauls me on top of him, like a human blanket. And when he doesn’t say more, I rest my ear over his heart and wait.

His arms tighten around me. “I’m afraid to sleep.”

“Why?” I whisper, knowing that voicing his fear out loud might help.

“I’m afraid I’ll sleep too long again.”

“Oh, Honey.” I keep my voice quiet and my head on his chest. “I understand why you feel that way. I can’t imagine how it must’ve felt when you found out how long it had been.

But even if you slipped into your hibernation sleep tonight, you wouldn’t be alone.

” I tap my fingers against his side. “And if I couldn’t figure out how to wake you, I would just ask Volik for help.

And if he couldn’t, he’d call your aunt and uncle.

Or that druid he mentioned.” I shake my head against Vameer’s chest. “I don’t even know what a druid is, by the way.

But my point is, even if the thing you’re scared of happening happened, you aren’t hidden.

And even if you were. I’d find you.” My heavy eyes slide closed. “I’ll always find you, Mon Amour.”
