Epilogue
Lorken
Iclasped my hands behind me as I stared at the holographic images being sent from my operatives on the surface of Gollun Prime.
My majak inclined his head at the slightly transparent, but life-sized hologram of a curvy female with colorful hair. “This is an actress called Lettie.”
I nodded, recognizing her name from Raas Wrexxon’s briefing. “Her brother led the battle chief and the human to the enemy transport.”
“Correct.” Dawz cycled to the next image. “This is the brother.”
I cocked my head to one side as I appraised the human. “He does not look clever enough to do that.”
Dawz tipped his head back and forth. “Our infiltration team says that looks are deceiving when it comes to many of the individuals who helped the battle chief.”
“They would have to be,” I muttered as the image flipped to a man with orange hair and a startled expression.
I sighed and walked behind the long, black desk in my strategy room.
“I vowed to Wrexxon that we would ensure these people’s safety when we took the planet.
Does our team think we can get them out before our raiders invade? ”
“Out, Raas?”
“Out of the way,” I clarified. “Can we lock down the theatre or make sure they don’t get caught in the crossfire?”
The holographic image changed, and I braced my hands on the desk and leaned forward. “Who is this?” Then, before Dawz could respond, I answered my own question. “Athena.”
The briefing had described her as striking and dark-haired, but it had not done her justice. I forgot to breathe as I stared, transfixed by the woman with waves of ebony hair that flowed over pale shoulders.
“Yes, Raas,” my majak said. “She was the one who took charge in hiding the battle chief and human.”
“Beautiful and brave,” I said to myself as my pulse danced and my skin prickled with awareness.
I had not entirely embraced Wrexxon’s idea of war brides, although I understood the leverage it gave us over potentially treacherous alliances. But as I gazed at the flickering image of Athena, I had a change of heart. Perhaps it was time for me to take a war bride of my own.
Striding toward the door, I walked through the flickering image of the human as I called over my shoulder. “Tell the crew to ready a shuttle for me. I will join the team on the surface.”
