Chapter 50 Noah

Chapter fifty

Noah

The camera is rolling and I'm doing what I apparently do best.

“Well, that's the last puppy. We have successfully re-homed every puppy born to our farm girls.” I twirl playfully with the camera, showing off the little nose poking out of my pocket.

It's been sixteen weeks since Rhys drugged me at the puppy farm. Bunny is officially too big to fit in my pocket, but we agreed to sacrifice this set of scrubs for dramatic effect.

“Now, I know what you're thinking. That looks like one more puppy in my pocket, and you're right. But I can confirm that this little sausage was adopted the day he was born.”

I pull Bunny gently from my pocket and hold him up to the camera. He's still small for his age. I don't think he'll ever catch up with the rest of his litter, but I'm so proud of my team for rearing all twelve puppies.

“Don't tell me you didn't guess I'd be keeping him.” I wink at the camera. These people have been with me through sixteen weeks of hell. I started a new job and brought my old job with me. I've been raising puppies and running a hospital, studying for my veterinary nursing, and falling in love.

Now everyone has found a new home. Me included.

“Don't worry, we're going to follow up on every beautiful girl and gorgeous pup. If you don't see your favorite face here, check online; I promise he or she will be there. And if you fell in love with our show favorites, you'll be able to see them on set from time to time.”

I set Bunny down on the floor. He's still a little wobbly on his feet for the first few steps, but by the time he reaches the little ball waiting for him, he moves like a typical puppy.

“We took donations for the adoptions for our twenty-four mums and two dads. But we fixed a minimum fee for the puppies to fund the wildlife hospital here on site. Along with all your donations and support, we have raised almost two hundred thousand pounds.”

I walk to the back of the practice, beckoning to the camera like we're on a secret tour. Bunny is safe; Tree was just off-screen to take over playing with him.

We cross the short gravel space between the hospital and the puppy barn, which has been completely transformed. I push the doors open to reveal Rhys waiting to show off his new pet project.

“Welcome to Humphry’s Hospital.”

The camera follows him, leaving me free to turn to Honey, who's been waiting on her bed in the prep kitchen.

“Hey precious.” I kneel down and stroke her behind her ears. She's healthy, happy, and thriving. Just like all the other dogs. Just like me.

Soon this place will be filled with baby birds in spring and underweight hedgehogs in autumn, and all manner of beasts and birds throughout the year.
