Epilogue.
Gravey
He stared at the young woman and the older lady as they placed flowers down on a grave.
Something about them stirred his emotions.
There was genuine pain in the older woman as she moved away and stopped at another grave.
More flowers were put down, and she raised her fingers to her lips and kissed them before touching the headstone.
Gravey waited until they left and headed over. The first was a double headstone with the names Grinder and Ginny. The younger female’s parents, he guessed. The second was an older brother reading the dates of birth and death. The other one’s old man, probably.
Gravey wondered what had brought them there. They’d never visited before.
Then Gravey scowled. He didn’t like change.
Drew
He locked the sheriff’s office with a lighter step.
The second deputy position had been filled.
A cop newly out of the academy but eager and keen to work somewhere like Merritt.
Drew’s arrest reports had been enough over the last two weeks to convince any naysayers he needed help.
He nodded at tourists who were still here, shopping in the dark night or heading to the eateries the town boasted.
He’d hit lucky coming here and was never more grateful to fate for the day he’d met Fanatic and Willow.
He wouldn’t have applied for this except for their urging him.
Snow was softly falling and Christmas was coming.
But Drew felt change was in the air, and he couldn’t decide it if was good or bad.
But for now, as he headed to the clubhouse for dinner, he was content that all was well in his town.
Unknown
Dark, emotionless eyes watched. The town had more people than expected. It wasn’t right that they prospered while he’d lost everything. A reckoning was due, and he was going to fuck the Unwanted Bastards just like his dad would have.
