Epilogue
Once for Green, Twice for Gray
Max
A spoon clatters to the ground, waking me.
“Damn it!” Mitch shouts from the kitchen downstairs.
I open my eyes with a small giggle. I’m sweating. The heat from the fireplace is suffocating, so I roll out of bed and open the windows to let in some air.
The sun’s cresting over the horizon, and I let its light hit my face, enjoying the coolness of the mid-April morning. As much as I love winter in Oakwhite, I’m looking forward to the warmer days and the opportunity to go for a swim, or even sailing.
I rub my belly, running my hands over the curve of my stomach. I’m nearly due; a little less than a month away. A swift kick makes me giggle, but also presses down on my bladder.
“Morning,” I say, hurrying to the bathroom.
When I return, Mitchell is heading upstairs, so I jump, or rather roll back into bed, bringing the thick comforter up to my chest.
“Christ, woman,” he complains, walking into our bedroom holding two mugs. “Why are the windows open? It’s freezing in here.”
“No, it’s not. I was sweating.”
“Well, you told me you were cold last night, so I made a fire,” he says, nodding toward the fireplace.
I shrug. “What can I say? Hormones.”
“Fucking hormones,” he says with a wink. “Here you are, my love.” He hands me my tea, followed by a kiss on the head, then rounds the bed and gets in on his side, planting his coffee cup on the bedside table.
I take a deep inhale of the rich aroma. “God, I miss coffee.”
“I’m sure you do,” he says, grinning and bringing down the blanket to below my belly for his usual morning routine. “And how are my other favorite people doing today?” he asks.
“Busy. Probably fighting. It’s like that scene from the Aliens movie.”
“Listen up, you two. No roughhousing, got it?” He kisses my stomach, then covers it with his large hand. “I’m so ready for them to be here.”
“Take it easy, bucko. We haven’t even agreed on the paint color for their room.”
“Green is best. I’m telling you.”
“I hate green.”
“No, you don’t,” he looks up at me, pouting. “My eyes are green.”
I pinch his scruffy chin. “And if I could paint the walls your eye color, that would be okay.” I tousle his hair. “Sadly, paint doesn’t work that way.”
He rests his chin lightly on my stomach. “You still want to paint it gray?” he asks, wincing as if I’ve suggested we paint the walls some horrible color.
“A light gray. Something neutral. Since we don’t know their gender, it makes sense.”
He kisses my belly again, then asks the babies, “How about you two? Kick once for green, twice for gray.”
We wait, but nothing happens.
“Smart kids,” I say. “They’re staying out of it.”
“Hmm, guess so.” Mitch slips my T-shirt up, kissing my bare belly. “Or maybe they’re napping. Letting Mom and Dad have some quiet time.” He winks at me, then slides beneath the covers.
I put my cup down, then run my hands through his hair as he showers my lower belly with kisses. “I should take a shower.”
“No, you should not.” He grabs my pajama bottoms and shimmies them down, kissing my legs as he peels them off. Then, he works his way back up to my middle, his soft beard tickling my thighs. Gently, he parts my knees and takes a deep inhale, then flicks his tongue along my core.
Mitch understands my body so well and knows my cues. He knows when to speed up and when to slow down. He knows when to kiss, to lick, to nip.
He grips my thighs, lifting me up so he can feast on my pussy. I don’t know if it’s love, or his skills, but whatever it is, I climax within minutes, writhing against the bed. Then again, maybe it’s because I’ve never been happier in my whole life.
With his eyes fixed on mine, he lowers my legs, then slides his body until he’s inside me.
He’s always been an amazing lover. Every single touch is full of love.
His kisses are never absentminded and always intentional.
The adoration I have for him—for my best friend and my one and only—is indescribable.
I reach out, framing his face with my hands, and he shuts his eyes, turning to plant a kiss on my palm. “I love you, Chi-Chi.”
He chuckles, shaking his head. “I thought we agreed you wouldn’t call me that.”
“I never agreed to anything of the sort.”
“Knew I should have gotten it in writing.”
He thrusts slowly, reaching down to rub his thumb over my swollen clit. My muscles ache and throb as I’m overcome by another wave of pleasure.
“Are you going to come for me again?” he asks.
I bite my lip, nodding. His touch, his affection, topples me over into blissful orgasm, and he comes, not far behind.
He lies beside me, gathering me into his arms, and tucks me against his chest when my stomach expands with a swift and strong kick.
“Oof,” I breathe out.
Mitch feels it against his side and his eyebrows shoot up. He plants his hand on my stomach, and I cover it with mine.
“That’s one kick,” he says.
I shake my head while he waits.
After a few more kick-free minutes, he laughs. “One kick. Yes! Green for the win!”
I roll my eyes, but laugh, rubbing my nose against his chest. “Great, my children already disagree with me.”
“What did you expect? I am their dad.”
