Thursday
Rowan
Hey, how’s it going?
Claire
It’s the last stretch between spring break and the end of the school year, so you can just assume the answer is “wild.”
Rowan
I can imagine. Have Landry or Loren contacted you about Daisy’s surprise birthday party next weekend?
Claire
Yeah, I’ll be there.
Rowan
Great. So will I … obviously.
I’ll also be in town tomorrow night. Think you’ll be up for some company?
I can bring some of that sausage I’ve been promising you.
Claire
You can’t convince me that you don’t hear yourself.
Rowan
Okay, that one was on purpose.
Claire
I just remembered that the Reeds are in their “trying” era, which is the only reason I won’t force you to stick it out over there. I may already be in bed by the time you get here, but you know the code.
Rowan
Oh, Daisy told you?
(I’m purposefully not commenting on you being in bed.)
Claire
She did, but I’m assuming you already knew.
Rowan
Yea. Not that it’s any of my business, I suppose, but it was nice of them to give me fair warning since I’ll need to monitor Daisy the whole time.
Claire
You can use the word pregnancy in front of me. I’m not going to fall apart every time.
Rowan
Of course you won’t.
But I might.
Claire
Wow. How dangerous of you.
Rowan
Need I remind you that this will be the child of my baby sister and my best friend?
I’m allowed to cry this time. Charge it to my man card.
Claire
I just cackled in class.
While we’re on the subject, though, I also have something to tell you.
Rowan
On the subject of Daisy and Landry making a baby or my man card?
Claire
I have a date this week.
Rowan
Oh … anyone I know?
Claire
I doubt you guys run in the same circles.
Rowan
I don’t suppose a thirst-trap selfie would entice you to change your mind?
Claire
Sorry. I’ve already gotten one of those today.
Rowan
Ouch.
Well, good luck. I hope you have a nice time.
Claire
Thanks. That’s very gracious of you.
Rowan
Promise you’ll call me if you need saving?
Claire
I promise.
