Chapter 11

CHAPTER ELEVEN

WOLF

After a few days of meticulous planning, the trap snaps shut exactly the way we designed it.

Armed with the heavily encrypted, thoroughly cleaned data logs Hadley pulled from the corrupted network, we don’t just find the leak, we obliterate it.

We set a massive, coordinated trap for the corrupt shipping middlemen down at the docks, ambushing them right as they tried to move their next illicit payload using our trucks.

In one swift, brutal strike, we cut off the major artery of the "Ghost Ship" smuggling setup, effectively blinding the local syndicate handlers. The threat to King’s Logistics is neutralized. Our immediate exposure is cleared.

But peace is always a fleeting luxury in this life.

Back in the dim, smoke-scented back room of the clubhouse, the adrenaline is still humming in my veins when Phoenix leans heavily against the doorframe, his expression carved from stone.

"The local problem is handled," the Enforcer rumbles, crossing his muscled, tattooed arms over his chest. "But we’ve got a new one. The Feds have started poking around."

A heavy, suffocating silence drops over the oak table.

"Poking around how?" I ask, my jaw locking tight.

"Calling a few of our quiet associates. Asking questions about transport manifests and tax structures," Phoenix replies grimly.

"If they start digging into some of our off-the-books operations to look for syndicate ties, it’s going to drag everything into the light.

It would absolutely gut us. It threatens everything the club has been building. "

Stryker slams a heavy fist onto the table and barks out a vicious, blistering curse that rattles the empty glasses.

Onyx swears under his breath, dragging a hand over his face, while Viper just scowls at the floor.

The frustration in the room is palpable, a thick cloud of impending financial devastation threatening to choke us all.

Stryker lets out a long, ragged exhale, reigning in his temper with sheer, brute force. He looks around the table, his eyes lingering on each of his officers.

"We’ve done what we can to stop the immediate threat today," Stryker finally says, his voice a steady, grounding rumble. "We cut the syndicate out of our warehouse. And that is deserving of a celebration. We’ll deal with the Feds tomorrow. Tonight, the first round of drinks is on me."

The brothers nod in agreement, a collective sigh rolling through the room, though I can see the tight lines of preoccupation still edging their eyes.

I leave the war room behind and step out into the loud, pulsing energy of the main bar area. The heavy bass of the jukebox vibrates through the floorboards, mixing with the smell of cheap draft beer and leather.

My eyes instantly scan the crowd, landing on the only thing in this room that actually matters.

Hadley is sitting at the bar. She’s laughing, her head thrown back, deep in conversation with Soraya, Stryker’s old lady, and Cierra, the sharp-tongued clubhouse bartender who doesn't take shit from anyone.

I stop in my tracks, leaning a shoulder against a wooden pillar just to watch her.

A slow, incredibly warm smile spreads across my face.

When she first uncovered the smuggling ring, I was afraid she would feel isolated or overwhelmed by the gritty, dangerous reality of the Rebel Kings.

I worried she wouldn't like the lifestyle or would feel like an outsider because she doesn't wear a patch.

But looking at her now, I'm reminded of exactly who this woman is. She’s resilient.

She’s brave. She’s spent her entire life adapting, fighting, and surviving.

Of course she was always going to make friends and thrive in whatever situation she was thrown into.

She fits perfectly into this chaotic, loyal family.

I’m just the luckiest bastard on earth that I get to be the man standing right next to her.

I push off the pillar and stride directly up to the bar.

Before Hadley even registers I'm there, I grab the edges of her barstool, spin her around to face me, and plant my hands firmly on her waist. I don't give her a chance to speak. I crush my mouth down onto hers in a full, scandalous, breathless kiss.

I lose myself in the sweet, vanilla-and-rain scent of her skin, the soft, yielding heat of her curves pressed against my chest, and the intoxicating flavor of her mouth.

She lets out a soft, surprised gasp that quickly melts into a soft moan, her hands instinctively wrapping around my neck to pull me closer.

When I finally pull back, we’re both panting, my chest heaving against hers.

Realizing that half the clubhouse is now staring at us, a bright, blazing flush creeps up Hadley’s neck. She lets out an embarrassed little squeak and immediately buries her flushed face into the crook of my shoulder to hide.

I let out a low, rumbling laugh. I'm not having any of that.

I gently hook my finger under her chin, tipping her face up so she has to look at me, and give her a slow, deliberate wink. Then, keeping a tight grip on her hand, I pull her up off the stool and clear my throat loudly.

The noise in the room immediately dies down to a soft, curious rumble as the brothers turn their attention toward the bar.

"Listen up!" I project my voice so it carries into every dark corner of the room. I wrap my arm securely around Hadley’s waist, pulling her flush against my side. "I’m only going to say this once. This woman is mine. And I am hers. Forever. Anyone forgets that, they deal with me."

For a second, there is total silence.

Then, Soraya lets out a piercing, delighted squeal from the bar.

The tension shatters. The men in the room erupt into cheers, lifting their beer glasses high into the air for a roaring toast. Stryker walks over, a wide, genuine grin breaking through his exhaustion, and claps me on the shoulder, shaking my hand firmly.

I don't even try to hide the massive, completely uncharacteristic smile taking over my face. I pull Hadley tightly against my side, pressing a hard kiss to her temple as the club celebrates around us.

An hour later, after the toasts have died down and the whiskey has flowed, I steal her away.

We climb onto my bike, leaving the noise of the clubhouse behind for the open, winding coastal highway.

The cool, salty night air whips around us, washing away the tension, the adrenaline, and the lingering shadows of the day.

We're both finally unwinding, relaxing into the rhythmic, powerful vibration of the engine beneath us.

I’m reminded of our first ride together, the unfiltered excitement when Hadley squealed in delight, the way her long red hair whipped around both of us as we flew through the night. When we dismounted, her bright brown eyes latched onto mine, and I knew she was hooked.

The bike speeds down a hill and up another one, rattling another memory loose. Our midnight ride together, when Hadley was working herself up to a panic attack. The road soothed her the same way it does me, each mile releasing more and more tension.

Hadley presses her chest flush against my back, her arms wrapping tightly and securely around my waist. She rests her helmeted head against my shoulder blade, holding onto me like she never plans to let go.

She is my ride or die. My partner. My equal in every way.

As I crank the throttle and lean into the curve of the road, I cover her small hands with one of my own. Beneath the roar of the wind, I renew my silent, unbreakable vow to protect, love, and cherish this incredible woman for the rest of my damn life.
