Chapter 4
CHAPTER FOUR
Sophie
“This is ridiculous,” I complain as I stare at my reflection in the mirror. “Is this necessary?” I look back at Jillian and roll my eyes.
It’s just her and I sharing our apartment now, since Adley moved in with Rory.
We’ve all made our way to Hudson, finding the quiet is something that we like outside of Montgomery.
But it only means that we are closer to those that have crossed over and Sutton, Lexi, and Adley all can be here to hassle us at a moment’s notice.
Kendall is the only person that still hadn’t made the move to Hudson.
I’m surprised really due to the ongoing drama she has with her nosy neighbor.
Truthfully I can’t believe she hasn’t murdered the lady yet.
“It is completely necessary,” Adley says in a singsong voice as she adjusts my skirt. “The idea is to put on a show.”
“I don’t want to be the center of attention.” Again with the toddler fit, minus the foot stomping.
“Babe in this dress, how can you not be?” Sutton says with a big smile.
“She can sing like an angel after a few drinks, and she has killer legs too. Who knew?” Lexi adds from her spot on my bed. Sitting on the edge she is looking me over from head to toe.
“Let’s not forget how amazing her boobs look right now.” Kendall reaches around and pushes up on my chest. “They are front and center.”
“Do you mind?” I swat at her hand.
“Her ass looks pretty good too,” Jillian adds and I gawk at her. I thought if anyone would be on my side, it would be her. But no, they’ve all lost their damn minds.
“I’m not going,” I say as I start to remove the dress straps off my shoulders. “This is a crazy idea anyway. Honestly it’s going to backfire and once again poor little Sophie is going to be the brunt of the joke. So what, I can’t get my own date now I have to fake date?”
Adley places her hand over mine to stop me.
“Hey.” I let out a frustrated breath and drop my hand as she turns me around to face her.
“No one said you can’t get a date. But Finn, I think needs this too.
The guy is drowning, between the hardware store and what’s going on with his dad, then trying to take care of his mom too.
He needs some distraction. So the two of you hang out, laugh, and have a little fun. ”
I arch a brow and she laughs.
“I was referring to innocent fun, but girl if you want to throw caution to the wind and have some dirty fun, there is no judgment here.” She holds up her hands in surrender.
“No fun!”
“Like no no fun?” she asks still smiling.
“No dirty fun,” I say in correction.
“Boring,” Kendall says and I glance in her direction.
“So what you are saying is that I should mount him in his truck and have my way with him?” Kendall narrows her eyes at me then looks over at Adley. Everyone else seems completely oblivious as I too should be. “The walls here are thin, Kendall,” I add.
“Mind sharing the secret, ladies?” Sutton asks, looking between Kendal and I.
“No secret,” Kendall assures everyone but no one is convinced.
“Seriously who did you mount and why don’t the rest of us know?” Lexi questions as everyone remains fully invested in the need to know information.
“Fine, assholes.” Kendall throws her hands up in the air. “Aaron is a lot of dirty fun.”
“Oh my God!” Jillian covers her mouth.
“I know it!” Sutton gasps. Adley and I already knew, though I was not supposed to know.
“Once, twice, ten times, are we talking ongoing or what? Details woman!” Lexi urges and Kendall just stares at her. “He’s wild isn’t he?”
“If you don’t fan yourself and cool off, I may have to tell Bennett that you are getting all worked up over the thought of his cousin getting it on in a parking lot.”
“A parking lot?” Lexi ignores Kendall’s threat. “So right out in the open, nice.” She nods in approval.
“It was a sporadic event that happened once and that’s it. Yes, it was a real good once, but he is the settle down type of guy and I am not that girl.”
“You could be that girl,” I add and she ignores me.
“His mom has plans to fix him up with a daughter of a friend of hers. Some sweet southern girl and we all know I am not sweet. If he showed up at his parents with a girl like me in tow, his mother’s head would spin.”
“I don’t think you give yourself enough credit,” Sutton tells her, crossing her arms over her chest. I’ve noticed how since Sutton announced she was pregnant she is so motherly and stern now.
It’s adorable actually. “You are independent and confident. You are determined and strong, there is nothing wrong with any of that.”
“Thank you momma, but if you have a son and one day he shows up with a tow truck driving tomboy at his side, you might change your mind.”
“No.” Sutton doesn’t hesitate. “If I have a son and he one day shows up with a woman who is exactly like you, Kendall Warren, I will congratulate him. I will love that he’s found a woman to challenge him at every turn.
Do not for a second think that you aren’t a fucking gem, because you are a diamond. ”
Kendall juts out her lower lip and looks at Sutton. “I prefer rubies.”
“Fine.” Sutton laughs. “Just stop acting like Aaron wouldn’t be the luckiest guy in Hudson if he had you by his side.”
“Okay, okay.” She stands and spins in a circle shaking her hands out at her sides. “Enough of this, back to the real purpose of this night.”
