Chapter 36
Violet
I woke up on the floor in a room I’d never seen before. Well, a shell of a room. Everything was charred, in a pile of ashes, or covered in black soot.
The last thing I remembered was not taking my medicine. I sat up and realized that I didn’t have any clothes on, but even with the soot surrounding me, I didn’t have a speck of dirt on me.
What happened here? To me?
“Good morning, love.”
That voice. A voice I had grown so fond of hearing, but I had never heard it like this before.
That voice set every nerve in my body on fire, and I felt something inside of me pulling. Like it was tugging me towards that voice. Begging me to turn around.
I slowly turned to see him sitting against a wall, resting his arms on his knees.
Everything in the world faded away when my eyes met his. Since the time I first saw him, I felt something deep down, but it was like there had been a cloak covering that feeling, and I would only get a glimpse of it every now and then.
But the cloak was gone now.
The feelings I felt were so clear.
My mate. Sebastian was my mate.
He must have noticed the look on my face because his eyes softened as he said, “It’s about time.”
I started to crawl towards him, not taking my eyes away from his. He seemed to look a little afraid of what I’d do next. Which made sense considering how I had tried to push him away all this time.
I stopped when I was only inches away from him and reached my hand out to place it on his face. He leaned into my hand and looked relieved by my touch.
His skin. I had never felt something so soft. Even with the coolness of it, it warmed me deep inside. I wanted to say something, but I couldn’t think of anything to explain what I was feeling. All I wanted was to feel him.
Every part of him.
I placed my other hand on the other side of his face, pulled him into me and our lips came crashing together. Even though we had kissed before, it felt nothing like this.
Those fucking pills.
I’m sure they did more than take away my pull to him, probably something that had to do with this room, but I didn’t care about any of that right now.
All that mattered was Sebastian and this moment I had with him.
He pulled away to say, “I have been waiting for this. For you. For so long.”
I looked at him confused. Had he known this entire time?
“Since I arrived here?” I asked.
“You’ve haunted me for eighty fucking years, Violet.”
I pulled his face back to mine, forcing our lips together as I climbed on his lap. I opened my mouth, and his tongue slid in.
I felt him harden beneath me, and I let out a moan.
I needed him. So badly.
I had denied the feelings and denied myself him for so long. But not anymore.
I wasn’t in the wrong for how I felt. I shouldn’t feel guilty thinking of him.
He was my mate. The one natural thing in this world of magic and power and everyone fighting for control one way or another.
I was made for him.
With my moan, he deepened the kiss, and my hands slid down, tugging at his shirt.
He pulled his shirt off over his head and wrapped his arm around my waist before picking me up and laying me on the floor. He climbed on top of me, trailing kisses down my neck before coming back to my mouth, devouring it like he had been starved.
“I want you,” I said through the kisses.
He pulled away, causing me to whimper, and gave me an uneasy look.
“Are you sure?” he asked.
“I’ve never been more sure of anything in my life.”
He stood up, staring down at my naked body as he unbuttoned his pants. He pushed them down to show his large length. My insides tightened at the thought of what was to come.
I needed him. Every part of him. Every inch of him.
He knelt down, hovering his body over mine, before slowly moving closer and closer to me, never taking his eyes off of mine. He stopped at my entrance, allowing me to only feel the tip, which only made my need grow stronger. I lifted my hips to him and begged him with my eyes. He chuckled before he obliged and thrust deep inside of me.
I let out a moan and wrapped my arms around him, clawing at his back. He pulled out slightly before he thrust back in again. Another moan escaped my lips as I tilted my head back, engulfed in pleasure.
Sebastian grabbed the back of my head, bringing me to look at him again as he stilled inside of me. “You’re mine, Violet,” he murmured.
“I’m yours,” I whispered, “all yours.”
With those words, the words he had so desperately wanted to hear from me, I felt something deep inside of me forming, connecting me to him. Our unbreakable bond.
He pulled out, then began pumping faster and deeper inside of me.
He grabbed my breast with one hand as he bent down to kiss me again. Our bodies moved in synchrony as we both came close to release.
Nothing had ever felt as good as the moment when we met our releases together.
I love you , I thought as I looked at the most beautiful male I had ever seen lying next to me.
He turned to look at me, his eyes wide as if I had said that thought out loud.
I love you, Violet, he said to me, without ever opening his mouth. He had said it through the tether that connected us—our bond.
I smiled at him, and even though all I wanted to do was feel him again and again, I glanced around the room, reminding myself that something had happened.
“What happened?” I asked.
“You burnt down my room,” he mumbled.
I sat up and looked at him worriedly as I said, “Just in here?” I imagined what the rest of the castle looked like if I somehow managed to do this in here.
“I held it in; it took a lot, but no one besides us knows what happened.”
I thought about what he said about conserving his power. How whatever he used didn’t get replenished as long as that object loomed in the castle.
“How much power did you use?”
“I’m fine,” he said, evading the questions.
“How much?”
He paused for a moment before he said, “Most of what was remaining.”
“Why would you do that?”
“You know how you’re feeling right now? The need to protect me and the worry about something happening to me?”
I nodded.
“I have been feeling that since the moment I laid my eyes on you. If the roles were reversed, you would do everything you could to protect me. No matter the costs. My powers mean nothing to me without you. And allowing this,” he said as he waved his hands around the room, “to get out would put you at risk, and I would die before I let that happen.”
“Seb—”
“I am fine. Better than fine, actually. I finally have you.”
I knew there was no point in fussing at him. It was done and we couldn’t change that. I just had to trust that he really was fine.
“How did I burn down the room?” I asked.
“You burst into flames.”
“So . . . no heart condition, I take it.”
He let out a loud laugh. “No, love. No heart condition. You can admit you were wrong now.”
I rolled my eyes. He may have been right, but I would never admit that I was wrong.
He smirked as he reached up, ran his fingers through my hair, and lifted a piece for me to see. It was no longer the dirty blonde hair that I’ve always had. It was a very light blonde with golden undertones.
“What the fuck,” I said as I grabbed the strand of hair from him, bringing it closer to my eyes as if I was seeing it wrong.
He chuckled as he said, “You should see your eyes.”
I looked around the room for a mirror but anything that was once on the walls was burnt and scattered across the floor. I saw a faint glimmer and ran over to find a broken mirror.
I wiped off the soot and what I saw in the mirror, I didn’t recognize.
The piece of hair that Sebastian had shown me was only part of the flowing waves that I now had. My hair was not only lighter, but it was fuller. But the part that left me speechless was my eyes.
Golden eyes that seemed to be glowing were looking back at me.
I dropped the mirror and looked back at him to see the pure awe on his face.
Awe of me.
I faltered for a moment because when I looked at him, nothing else seemed to matter.
“What am I?” I finally asked.
He scrunched his eyebrows. I’m not sure whether he wasn’t sure himself or he just didn’t want to say, but he said, “You need to talk to your father.”
