Chapter 4 #4

She gave her head a slight shake. She supposed it was okay to confess this stuff to him.

It wasn’t like he didn’t seem to know tons more about this than she did.

Hell, in a matter of seconds, the man had managed to figure out how her body worked better than she had in her almost thirty-two years.

If she was going to talk to anyone about this stuff, she supposed he was the right person to do it with.

He could coach her. Teach her about her body and maybe, without him knowing it, about her power.

And his ability to abate a panic attack was definitely a good reason to keep him around.

Her brother became basically useless when it came to them and she’d been lucky enough to never have one while in the presence of Sascha. . . But that was only if she could trust him. . .

She looked at him now, at his neat eyebrows and hazel eyes, almost a dark brown in the barely there light of the moon shining through the heavily tinted windows of his vehicle. Could she trust this man? If not with her body for one night, with this small part of her life? The sexual part.

He breathed a soft laugh, his smile sad when he announced. “You have a question. I can see it in your eyes.” He watched her for a moment, lying in the quiet silence of the car. “Ask it. If you don’t ask, you’ll never know.”

She continued to study him before turning her gaze to his hands, resting on the floor between them.

Slowly she took his hands in hers trying to pull just the slightest amount of power from the over abundant wealth of what he’d stirred up.

She’d only intended to glance it, to skim the surface, as she closed her eyes tightly, reaching for the truth in his answer, his body. “Can I trust you?”

He breathed a soft laugh, taking a deep rapturous breath, but she felt the sincerity of his answer.

He harbored her no ill will, was ready to start or stop this whenever she saw fit, and truly wanted to help her understand what was happening with her body and control it.

“Don’t you already?” His voice was deep, graveled ecstasy.

Almost as though she’d done something incredibly satisfying to him. . . But she hadn’t.

Janice blinked her eyes open slowly, seeing first their hands and not understanding what she saw.

A soft, sparkling blue cloud surrounded their clasped hands, swirling gently around them with a sort of ebb and flow. As though their hands were the center of a world made of crystal blue, luminescent waters.

It took another moment for her to understand what she was seeing though and she jerked her hands away from his.

He gasped as though something large had been wrenched from him, but that didn’t make the cloud of power disappear.

Instead, it exploded around them before the glittering particles froze in the air.

It looked almost like a scene in one of those future sci-fi movies where the characters were standing in the stars of the planetarium projector.

But this wasn’t a movie. . . This was real life.

Where she wasn’t protected by plot armor or a quacky scientist who needed her to go on some big adventure.

. . This was real life. Where normal people killed those who were different.

Where your own family would track you down and burn you at the stake for the simple mistake of being born a monster.

The stars began to sputter and fizzle out as her chest heaved.

She needed to run. Needed to get away, but she couldn’t breathe.

She couldn’t find air. Gasping she reached out blindly as she clutched at her chest. It ached, it burned.

Her head pounded. Oh God! She thought, horrified. I’m gonna die here—

And then she couldn’t breathe. At all.

She blinked rapidly, several times before gentle fingers guided her to open her mouth and a tongue thrust its way in to fill the newly open cavern. By the time the kiss was broken her lungs burned with desperation and she had to gasp to get the air she so desperately craved.

“If you don’t stay calm, you’ll force me to distract you.” Warren said firmly. “And we won’t be having any conversations.”

Janice blushed deeply, thoroughly flustered by his response and the fact he wasn’t running for the nearest hill. . . or pitchfork.

“There are a lot of things that you lose control of when you go into Heat.” He said matter-of-factly, but she mouthed the unfamiliar word. “Your magick doesn’t scare me.”

She stared at him, completely dumbfounded.

Magic. . . That’s what he thought her power was.

. . Well, it wasn’t like she could argue with him.

She’d seen a couple of different movies and supposed some of the stuff she could do did appear magical.

. . She just hadn’t expected that anyone would ever be able to just take it in stride as he had.

Instinctively, she found herself reaching for him again with her magic as he liked to call it. He closed his eyes and sighed as though she’d just blessed him or something.

“You know. . .” He growled enticingly, nipping at her lip and sending a ripple over the delicately bubbled surface of her lust and power.

“If you keep doing that, I might get addicted. . .” He nipped her jaw and leaned over her to speak huskily in her ear.

“Is that what you want?” He asked, “A loyal dog? Shall I show you how loyal I can be?”

His words thrilled her, caused that temperamental pool inside her to first spill a single drop, before it overflowed in earnest. Warren caught her up by the thigh and slid a leg between hers, then he pressed a hand to her lower back and brought her forward to meet him, the strong thigh of his pants grinding against her sensitive core.

“Wait.” She gasped, gripping his shirt with desperation as he guided her waist against his leg. He was driving her back toward that edge again. That terrifying edge that she’d stopped him before reaching when she’d been about to cross it before. “Warren, Stop. . .”

His voice was a delicious growl in her ear.

“If you want me to stop—” he ran his tongue up the side of her neck and nipped at the hollow behind her ear, “—you know what you need to say. . .” There was a bit of a chuckle in his graveled voice when he said.

“It’s the name of the person you hate most right now. ”

“Warren. . .” she reached out blindly, trying to find something to pull herself up with, to pull herself away with.

What he was doing felt too good. He was too good at it.

And she was well aware that all the deep, keening moans escaping her as he ground her against him were doing nothing in the way of discouraging him.

“Warren, I Can’t!” Her voice was full. That potent mix of power and lust driving her, spilling from every pore, every orifice and every word.

“You know what to say.” He rumbled deeply in her ear.

“Warren!” She cried desperately.

“Ansell.” He growled.

But it was too late. He’d all but thrown her from a cliff to plummet and explode as her cry burst from her, her body seizing against his as he held her close. The confines of the pool within her burst, the waters surging forth to drown the love starved desert of her life.

He held her against him for a long time, allowing her the titillating wash of aftershocks rocking her body over and over and over again.

At one point she thought it would never end, so when it did, and she found herself encased in Warren’s embrace, she wasn’t sure what to do next.

Her first instinct was to try and make some kind of painfully awkward excuse and run, but he spared her the need when he asked patiently, “Ready to continue?”

When she looked up at him, it was to find a smug, rather self satisfied grin on his face.

Part of her wanted to pull away, punch him and sneer Ansell’s name in his face.

But the other part. . . The part that was all lust and desire and passion.

That was the part of her in control. And now that she had been unleashed, she refused to be confined in the depths of her soul any longer.

That part of Janice was the part that responded.

That part, was the part that ground down against his leg and broadened that satisfied grin.

“Keep going.” Was all she said before glancing from his eyes to his mouth and kissing him with all the passion he’d unleashed in her.
