Chapter 6 #3
“I clawed your hips without noticing. . .” He sighed and she hefted herself onto her elbows and arched to the side so she could look back at him. “Granted, I’m pretty sure you did the same to my back, but I’m off tomorrow, so I’ll go see my Doc so he can patch me up.”
She didn’t have the opportunity to ask what he meant. The pain was sharp and angry. She hissed at him and kicked back her leg, missing him entirely.
“Sorry,” he muttered briefly, focusing on cleaning the wounds in the backs of her hips.
He spread ointment there and then moved his attention to finishing her legs, picking up the speed from a sensual caress to a thorough wiping of the rest of her other leg.
Then he was placing large bandages over her back wounds, flipping her over and sitting her up.
He placed the biggest bandage she’d ever seen on her shoulder over the savage imprint of his teeth and then he was pulling her dress back over her head.
“Requiem is five minutes from here by car. If we’re lucky, we won’t catch traffic. ”
She shoved her arms under the straps of her dress. “Why?” She frowned.
“We’ve got less than fifteen minutes to get you to your brother.
” He looked around and snatched up his keys and her underwear, pressing the latter into her hand before crawling around her and over the center console and ac unit to the front seat and starting the car.
“You can finish straightening up and climb into the passenger’s seat when you’re done.
” He shifted into gear and began pulling out of what Janice noticed was a notably abandoned rear parking lot.
“I’ll zip your dress before you get out. ”
Janice adjusted her dress before carefully climbing into the front seat and adjusting the way the dress held her breasts. She buckled her seat belt as they turned into the road, passing a car turning in for the early dining shift.
After what felt like forever, she said awkwardly. “Thank you for driving me to my brother’s job.” The sky was already lightening with the threat of daybreak.
“Don’t worry about it.” He threw her a roguish grin. “I’ll be seeing you later today as well. You can just show me your appreciation then.”
Janice frowned, uncertain about what that meant, but he was speaking again before she could formulate a response.
“I’d love a little honey with my midday coffee.”
She looked at him incredulously. She had no idea what he meant by that— He cut a look to the crotch of her dress and she flushed with embarrassment. She covered her lap quickly, muttering to herself, “Oh god. . .”
He chuckled as she folded herself in half. He could say such embarrassing things sometimes. Then the car was pulling over and stopping.
“We’re here.” He said casually, and she felt his hands on her back as he zipped her up. “Go on, before he comes out looking for you.”
When she glanced up, he was smiling softly and unbuckling her seat belt for her. She had the maddest desire to kiss those cocky lips of his.
He met her gaze and held it, before crooking a finger at her.
She obeyed, rising to meet him. “Just one for the road.” He grinned, gaze flicking down to her mouth.
“Last thing I want is to be caught snogging you in front of your brother’s workplace by someone.
. .” he breathed a laugh and he tilted her head up with a crooked finger under her chin.
“Least of all, your brother.” He kissed her fully, thoroughly, leaving her weak kneed and wanting.
“Now go, before your brother has my head.”
His smile was light and humored, but his eyes were tired and humorless. He was serious about that.
She opened the door and climbed slowly out of the car then. He rolled down the window as she shut it.
“I’d walk you up, but it’s two minutes until seven and I’d rather not meet your brother in my current state.”
She looked at him then. His hair was sleep tousled, his shirt open with several long scratches side by side running down his chest and over his stomach.
His pants were open with a semi-erect penis hanging out with a coat of white flaking off and all his clothes looked like they’d been through the ringer.
The man needed a shower, starch and press before she’d be willing to consider introducing him to her brother.
Yeah, she was pretty sure she looked bad, but his state made her look like a Saint who’d just been preyed upon. Nodding her agreement, she waved him off. “I’m pretty sure even the police would have a problem with your appearance right now. Stay in the car, I can walk in on my own.”
She felt a bit wobbly on her legs and her heels weren’t helping, but she made it to the door. Only to have Warren shout, “I’ll see you later at one, babe!” Which had the effect of making her stumble and deterring some guy who had been apparently bee-lining for her.
She waved him off quickly, but took a second to get her footing, before rushing into the building. Listening as his car drove off and doing her best not to look back.
She wouldn’t really see him later. . . right?
