Chapter 5 #2
He guided the Rennsha to a rock formation on a small mountain, then landed the ship between the massive rocks.
It was such a close fit that the rock they were facing rested only inches away from the viewport.
He issued a verbal command to the computer, but he spoke in Vaxxlian, and she wasn’t certain what he said.
But a second later, a faint blue shimmer flashed outside the viewport.
“An invisibility shield,” he explained. He reached for her hand and laced his fingers through hers.
Heat sparked between them, a rush of sensation that traveled up her arm to every nerve ending in her body. Goosebumps rose on her flesh, and she felt simultaneous flashes of hot and cold.
“How long do you think we’ll have to stay here?” she asked, and her voice came out high and breathless.
“As long as we must. As I’ve already explained, I refuse to risk your safety.” His deep voice rumbled straight through her, and his green eyes glowed brighter.
Spinning his seat toward her, he leaned closer until their faces were perhaps two inches apart.
Her heart stammered when she realized his intent—he wanted to kiss her.
Still holding her hand, he reached for her face with his free hand, cupping her cheek as he continued holding her gaze.
He rarely blinked, and she found it difficult to keep looking at him, yet even more difficult to look away.
So, she stared back at him, waiting…
Wanting.
The woodsy, masculine scent that clung to him filled her senses, and the heated pulses between her thighs came faster.
She felt on the verge of whimpering, or moaning, and it was a struggle to remain silent.
It was also a struggle not to squirm around to alleviate the achiness in her core that was almost becoming unbearable.
If he didn’t kiss her soon—and touch her—she would burn up with longing.
At last, he pressed his lips to hers. The whimper that had been building in her throat instantly escaped, and she found herself melting into him, parting her lips to allow his tongue to sweep along hers. He shifted even closer and cupped her face in both hands as he continued kissing her.
Then his tongue started vibrating against hers, and she couldn’t restrain another whimper. Oh, God. She’d had no idea Vaxxlians’ tongues could vibrate. She wondered if it was an automatic response to his arousal, or if he could make it vibrate at will.
Her thoughts scattered as he deepened the kiss. His tongue vibrated faster, and a low growl also emanated from his throat. Not breaking the kiss, he lifted her and settled her on his lap.
She immediately detected his hardness beneath her bottom, and she couldn’t resist squirming slightly over the massive appendage that was still encased in his pants. Quivers rushed through her, and she felt increasingly breathless, her head spinning with blissful delirium.
They hadn’t even taken their clothes off yet, and she could already say this was the most exhilarating moment of her life. Kissing Tobias had never evoked such passion within her. She almost felt like another person—wanton and free. Desirable.
A little voice whispered urgently in her head, warning her that she needed to be careful. She’d just had her heart broken, and the only reason she’d signed up for VAMOB was because it was a matter of survival.
Were they diving in too deep, too fast?
By Vaxxlian standards, probably not. But by human rules… absolutely.
Was she foolishly rushing into a relationship out of sheer desperation? Was she about to make the biggest mistake of her life?
She pulled away from Warrin, needing air. She also needed to get her thoughts in order. Vaxxlians mated for life. Once they slept together, there would be no going back. No changing her mind.
Panting breathlessly, she stared at Warrin, taken aback by the intensity of his gaze. His eyes gleamed with affection—as well as resolve.
But was she imagining the tenderness? Was she only seeing what she wanted to see? It had been so long since anyone had looked at her with a loving expression that it made her eyes burn with tears.
As she continued holding Warrin’s gaze, she realized it had been ages since Tobias had given her a look containing even the mildest hint of affection.
Caught up in planning their wedding—a task he’d insisted she do mostly on her own—she hadn’t realized the spark had long vanished between them.
Until it was too late. Until he’d broken her heart.
Would Warrin ever break her heart? It was said that Vaxxlians never cheated on their mates, but what if that wasn’t actually true? What if it was part of the propaganda his people were disseminating as they tried to convince human females to sign up for VAMOB?
Despite the worries flitting through her mind, the warmth undulating in her center wouldn’t abate. If anything, it only kept growing stronger. Even though they were no longer kissing, she still felt breathless, as though there wasn’t enough oxygen on the bridge.
Warrin leaned close and nuzzled his nose against hers, wrapping his arms around her at the same time, and her heart danced at the intimacy of the action.
“I would like to take you to my quarters now, little sarr’ahh. I am eager to mate with you. I am eager to exchange the mating vows of my people with you, and I am eager to fill you with my seed—marking you as mine forever.”
