Emelia hasn’t responded.

That could mean a thousand different things. Terrible or lovely or some without much meaning at all.

I gather up all her things anyway, except for the book, which I leave in my nightstand. If she asks, I’ll say I couldn’t find it.

I just don’t want her to believe in sad endings.
