Clutching my husband’s note in my trembling hands, my world shatters. All I can focus on are four little words with the power to change everything: You deserve the truth.

When my long-lost friend Lucy invites us to her Spanish villa, I jump at the chance for me and my husband Robert to finally have some quality time together. Our daughters have flown the nest and it’s a chance for us to re-connect.

But soon after we arrive, I feel Robert slowly pulling away from me. At first it’s little things. His conversation is muted and he refuses to meet my eyes at dinner. And then I see him chatting to Lucy’s grown-up daughter and I know, it’s something far bigger.

Then one morning, I find a crumpled note in his bedside drawer and I feel sure our marriage is over: What I’m about to say is going to blow our lives apart. But I can’t hide it any longer. And I’m terrified you won’t ever forgive me…
