47. Never Have I Ever

Rhys

All things being equal, I’d rather be drinking scotch for this game.

But it is eight in the morning, so it’s tea for me as Briar taps her chin, then goes first. “Never have I ever gone bungee jumping.”

Hollis gives her a curious look. “Don’t you know? This game is supposed to be dirty?”

“Bungee jumping is foreplay,” Briar says with mischief in those blue eyes. “I mean, the adrenaline, guys. The adrenaline.”

“Oh,” Hollis says, nodding. “Good point.”

But Briar is the only one who drinks, which surprises me. “You don’t seem the type to go bungee jumping.”

“Oh, I’m not. But my brother goaded me into it once. He is the type, and I’m a sucker for him. So I did it,” she says.

I add that nugget to the Briar intel file, her affection for her brother. It’s getting bigger, the file. I like it too much for my own good, and yet I can’t stop adding to it. “Never have I ever had a foursome,” I say.

Hollis shoots me a doubtful look. “Was that a foursome though? Our guy Worthy fucked his own hand.”

In no time, Gavin darts out said hand and thumps Hollis on the head.

“Ouch,” Hollis says, rubbing the spot.

“Good. I hope it hurt,” Gavin grumbles.

Hollis places his palm against his chest. “You hurt my feelings.”

“You don’t have any.”

Briar grins like she’s posing for a pleased meme as she lifts her mug. “I’ll drink. It counts.”

We all drink so fast.

When I set the mug down, I muse on my turn. Sure, it’s fun to play dirty Never Have I Ever but yesterday morning at this table we vowed to romance her too, so fuck it. “Never have I ever gone on a date with…three guys.”

Confused, she shoots me a look. “I haven’t. I’m presuming you guys haven’t either.”

Feigning ignorance, I smack my forehead. “My mistake. I thought it also counted when it was for something you’re about to do. Say, our last night here? Before we go?” I’ve already started forming the plan in my head.

Her grin is like melting chocolate, sweet and delicious. “I would love to,” she says.

“It’ll help with your column,” I add, just so she doesn’t think I’ve forgotten the rules we laid out. “We can romance you. Take you on the best date ever. Who’s in?”

My mates all raise their mugs in our twist on the game.

Briar lifts her mug near her face, maybe to hide a smile. When it’s her turn, she says, “Never have I ever gone on a hot-air balloon ride.”

No one drinks except Briar. When she finishes, she says, “We’ll change that. I’m going to take all of you on one. I know someone. I can get us a sunset ride no problem.”

My heart stutters. This woman is a fucking romantic too. “I’m there,” I say, the first man to RSVP.

Hollis is next, and Gavin says yes too.

My gaze strays to the clock. “We need to get to the obstacle course at ten-thirty. It’s eight-thirty now.”

“I have a class at eleven,” Briar says.

Gavin clears his throat. “Never have I ever had morning sex.”

We all scoff at the softball question and lift our cups, but before we can drink, Gavin raises his voice and adds, “Today.”
