Chapter Sixteen
Bonnie
I felt his stare as I slowly blinked into consciousness. We spent the rest of the night in bed, where we went for round two. And then he woke me up in the middle of the night for round three. The look he was giving me made me think he was about to attempt round four.
“Listen, I need caffeine and a carb,” I complained, “so stop looking at me like that.”
He laughed as he nuzzled into my neck, inhaling a few times before speaking.
“I’ll feed you and get coffee, I promise.
Just…just tell me that you’re coming home, that last night was the start of us trying again.
I’ve been staring at you for the last two hours, waiting for you to wake up so I can ask you.
You just never…never actually said you were coming back. ”
I peeked over at him through my hair, and his face looked so worried. “I can’t say I’m 100 percent over what happened, but I believe you. I believe that you never had any intention to hurt me, so I’m ready to try to put it in the past. So, yes, I’m coming home.”
“Thank fuck.” He snuggled closer into me. “What can I get you? Bacon, sausage, both?”
“Whatever is easiest for you,” I said into my pillow. Maybe I can get a few extra minutes of sleep…
“It’s whatever you want.”
“You’re really going to be a little bit insufferable for a while, aren’t you?” I took the pillow out from under me and hit him over the head with it, only to be met by the cheesiest grin on his face.
“Yes, probably until you agree to marry me and have babies with me. I’ll be insufferable until then.”
“How does that make any sense?” I complained.
“Well, when you marry me, you’ll have my last name, and then you’ll have my babies, and you’ll both have my last name.” Mine.
“Why don’t you just pee on me instead?” I huffed out at him.
“Would you let me?”
“Ugh, no, of course not. But maybe let’s ease ourselves back into it. Like, maybe a puppy first, and an engagement once we make it through training a puppy. Deal?”
“Deal,” he agreed.
He kissed me on the nose and smacked me on the ass as he dragged himself out of bed to start making breakfast, muttering something about making both bacon and sausage. And I could have sworn I heard him mumble something about puppies.
