Chapter 8

Chapter

Eight

Perrae

I peered out of my bedroom window. It was late as hell, but I couldn’t sleep. There was an uneasy feeling I’d had for the past week.

It started when I contacted the HOA and the police about Myron. Even if they confronted him, I just had a feeling that visit wouldn’t go well.

Myron proved to me that he was more than a drunk. That he was capable of murder. I thought back to the night when I was almost attacked at my salon.

I knew that was Myron. I didn’t need anyone to validate my suspicions. That nigga saw me as his enemy.

Why, though? I didn’t even know him. Even if we were well acquainted, that still didn’t justify why he constantly targeted me.

Light shuffling resonated behind me. Fortune wrapped his strong arms around my waist. “What’s on your mind, baby?”

“A lot. Mainly, I’m worried about that maniac. If Myron crashed out on me for dumping his trash on his porch, I can only imagine how he’s going to react whenever the police and HOA decide to show up. That’s if they show up. It’s been a week already since I reported him.”

I sighed. Fortune held me closer and kissed the top of my head like he always did to reassure me that I was safe. “Baby, I’m not sure how that’s going to play out. We don’t know.

“What I can guarantee to you is the fact that we’ll be safe. All of us will be safe. Whatever storm that you feel coming, just know I’ll be by your side the whole time.”

I turned in his arms and faced him. I smirked. “You always know how to soothe me. I was worried and still am, but I feel safer and more relaxed knowing that you’ll be by my side.”

“You can bet yo’ life on that. Come. Let’s go back to bed. Clearly, I ain’t do my job if you’re up worried.”

I laughed as Fortune guided my naked canvas back to my bed. My back had barely touched the bed before he dove between my thighs. His tongue swiped between my folds.

My hands flew to his head with my eyes closed. I thrust forward, making sure he didn’t miss a drop of my kitty. “Fuck!” I screamed in a low tone so the kids wouldn’t hear me.

Fortune knew his way around my pussy. Oral pleasure was something I never craved, because it was always poorly done by Big J. Fortune walked in and changed all of that.

There was always a euphoric feeling that washed over me like rolling waves when he sucked on my clit. I felt like a mango core. The more he tugged on my rosebud, the higher my orgasm rose.

Fortune wrapped his arms around my thighs, and my body shook. His tongue dove so deep in me, that I released a flood on him. “Ahh! Fuck!” I squealed louder than I’d like to.

I couldn’t help it. He continued to slurp, knowing my body shook like a vibrator. My body felt so sensitive. Every touch from Fortune made my body tingle.

No man had ever made me feel like this. That was why I made the right decision to take our relationship to the next level. When the time was right, I’d let it be known.

I sipped my glass of lemonade from my porch swing. Fortune and JJ tossed a football around while the girls played on their new playground set. Fortune installed it for them this time.

Madison ran down the slide, trying to dodge Tahiri. She didn’t want to be tagged, so she ran and plopped right on my lap. “I’m safe. I’m on Perrae’s lap.”

I wrapped my arms around her and kissed the top of her head. “That’s right. She’s safe.”

“Mommy, not you cheating for her,” Tahiri sassed.

“Girl, bye. I just did the same thing for you not even ten minutes ago.”

Tahiri laughed. “You might have a point.”

Madison and I giggled with her until loud shouts filled the air. I moved Madison to the side and stood. My eyes focused on the commotion that took place at Myron’s house.

Fortune and JJ joined me on the porch. We looked on at the chaos. There were squad cars parked in front of Myron’s house.

He shouted at the police and a few men dressed in suits. I believed they were probably from the HOA. Myron continued to yell at them.

“Y’all not coming in my fuckin’ house. I don’t need to show y’all my ID or paperwork that I live here. I’m renting this place, and that’s all y’all need to know.”

“No, it’s not, sir. Legally, you have to show paperwork that you’re renting this home. We have documents that the Packers own this home.

“Now if they rented their home to you, that’s fine. We can’t reach them, so you’re the next in line to help ease this situation,” one of the men in suit voiced. “Not to mention you have violated quite a few laws from just the way your yard looks. What the hell is that stench?”

“Fuck all that. I don’t know where them folks at. They accept my monthly payments. That’s all I know. That’s all I need to know! Get the fuck off my porch!” Myron shouted again.

One officer shook his head and stepped forward. “You either willingly allow us in that house, or we’re going to remove you and search ourselves. You are preventing a wellness check from happening, and we can arrest you for that. Let’s do this the easy way,” the officer encouraged.

Myron mugged them. “Y’all took my home from me once. It won’t happen again.”

I wondered what he meant by that.

Myron went to speak again, when he looked over our way and noticed we watched him. The moment our eyes connected, he smirked, and all chaos erupted.

That man was a drunk. I mean a pure drunk, but that nigga moved with speed I’d never seen. He pulled a gun from his waist and shot all three officers.

The men in suits tried to flee, but he popped them too. Myron turned his gun and fired at us, except there were no more bullets. What the hell!

“Get in the house, now!” I yelled.

The kids ran inside. Fortune tugged on me. My heart raced harder than the Indy 500, before I caught a glimpse of Myron taking one of the officer’s guns that was injured. Three more shots rang out.

I ran inside. “JJ, get the kids in the basement now and call the police. Now! Go!”

“Yes, ma’am.”

The girls cried, but I had no time to soothe them. When they ran downstairs, I locked the door. I looked at Fortune.

“Follow me upstairs.” I raced upstairs with Fortune on my heels. We entered my closet. I punched in the security code to my safe, and it opened.

I had guns for days. Quickly, I loaded a gun and handed it to Fortune. I loaded mine then closed the safe.

Rapid gunfire shot through my bedroom window. Both of us ducked down. Myron had gone crazy.

“Take cover. That nigga got me fucked up,” Fortune stated. His pupils had enlarged, and there was a devilish look in his eyes.

I’d never seen him so angry. I didn’t like him out of his lover boy element. Fortune had to think again because I’d never sit back and watch him get hurt for me.

While Fortune and Myron exchanged gunfire, I crept out of the closet and downstairs. It was still daylight, but I could see his shadow in front of my back door. I hid next to my smart refrigerator.

Myron kicked and kicked until my door was booted opened. I held on to my gun tightly. This surprise attack was about to be sweet for me.

He was out of view. Myron knocked shit around in my kitchen. My heartbeat sped up.

Perspiration covered my body. I was scared, but I was more than tired of that menace. He wouldn’t back off, so I had to make him.

When Myron came in my line of sight, I thought about all the ways Big J used to misuse and abuse me. I squeezed my trigger and fired twice. One bullet hit his back and the other, his upper shoulder.

Myron hit the floor with a loud thud. I ran over and kicked his gun out of the way. Fortune raced into the kitchen with his gun aimed at Myron.

He lay on the floor and gurgled in his own blood. We stood over him. “I told you not to fuck with me!” I spat.

Evil was present in his eyes. “This is my house! My house!” he yelled.

“You’re more delusional than I thought. We know one thing though. You’re going away for a very long time.”

Fortune handled the kids so we could head to his place for a few days. My house would need to be deep cleaned after today’s events. He also had to let Lina know what happened because my lil Madison was so scared. I sat on my couch and listened to the investigative detectives inform me about Myron.

They’d long ago cuffed him to a stretcher and hauled him out of my house. His angry eyes bore into mine, but I mugged him back. That muthafucka still didn’t put fear in me.

My house had been filled with law enforcers for hours now. It was now evening. They were still next door at Myron’s house too.

“Ms. Powers. Thank you for your courage and dedication to protecting not only your family, but the Packers. No charges will be filed against you since Myron came on your property and attacked you guys.

“He got what he deserved. Sadly, the Packers didn’t deserve their fate. After we raided his home and removed his son, we found a lot more than we wanted to.

“Myron killed the Packers and buried them in his backyard along with a social worker named Latena Notes. About six months ago, Ms. Notes and deputy sheriffs removed his son AJ from their home and evicted him.

“A couple of weeks later, he held Ms. Notes hostage until she told him where his son was. She gave in. Myron killed that whole foster family and got his son.

“Now, it was lost on us why he killed the Packers. It’s come to our knowledge that they knew him. He looked different, and his name was different. Myron has gone by many names. David Cost and Myron Burrs is just a couple of the aliases he used.

“Myron Burrs is Antwan Price. Your home used to be his home. It was this very house that they were thrown out of.”

“Wait, come again?” I probed in total confusion.

“Antwan Price used to be a prominent figure in this community. He was a pastor. One night, his wife was killed in a tragic car accident. She died instantly.

“After Naya’s passing, he clearly lost his way. He neglected everything, including his son, and turned to the bottle. That explained why he took over the Packer’s house. It was next to your house, his old home. He wanted to go back to his house where I guess the memories of Naya’s were.

“After reading over your reports, it makes sense why he targeted you and your family. He wanted you out of his house. Antwan used fear. What he didn’t expect was the mama bear he’d run into.”

I smirked. “Thank you, Detective Mills. I didn’t want things to get that far, but Myron, I mean Antwan took things too far.”

“He did. I hated the way things turned out for him, but actions have consequences. Thank you, Ms. Powers, for your help again. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to us.”

We stood together, and I walked him over to the door. “I won’t, Detective.”

The last officer walked out with him, and I closed the door. Fortune didn’t miss a beat. He wrapped his arms around my waist and cuddled me to his chest. “Are you okay, baby?”

I sighed. “I’m much better now.” I turned in his arms. “Thank you for being the man that you are. I’m really blessed to have you in my life, so blessed that I want you to have this.”

Fortune’s arms slightly loosened around my waist. I dug in my pocket and removed a single key. His brows merged at the sight of the gold key.

“Babe, what’s that key to?”

“My heart and home. I want you here every day. If you want it to be, this can be your home too. Waking up to you is the highlight of my day. But it also turns this tragic day into a beautiful memory.”

Fortune leaned forward and held me tightly. “Waking up to you is the highlight of my life. I know we’ve only been together for a short amount of time, but I know my forever lies with you,” he replied. “I love you, Perrae.”

I grinned harder than a kid at a dental office. That was music to my ears. “I love you too, Fortune.”
