Chapter 15

Nessa

There was a knock at my room door just as I spit in the sink.

Rising out my mouth, I finished brushing my teeth before going to the door.

I looked out the peephole and saw Yas standing at my door.

After I allowed her access to my room, I sat on the bed with her.

The suite that Nas and Chance secured for us and the girls was beautiful.

Although I was pissed with Nas, I was excited to see what these other cities were about.

“Girl, are we really on an all-expense paid vacation?” Yas questioned as she fell back on my bed.

“Yes, bihh, we really are,” I exclaimed as I realized it really was that. “I can’t believe it either, sis.”

“I told yo’ ass yo’ life was givin’ urban fiction like them damn books.”

“It’s all just so crazy, girl. Like I didn’t see this shit comin’I swea’. Even when I try to keep my life as normal as possible, Nas go and do some shit like this that remind me that it ain’t.”

“Listen, baby I’m just happy to be book land adjacent since I’m yo’ girl.”

“I mean you know I can’t come up and not bring my girl that’s been down with me since day one, but I mean you could be in yo’ own story.”

“And how the hell can I do that?”

“By givin’ Chance a chance,” I giggled at my unintentional joke.

“Man, Nessa you know I ain’t got no time for that plus I can’t risk that shit fuckin’ up my relationship with Chanel.”

“But what if it doesn’t and it works out?”

“And what if it doesn’t work out and then I don’t have a relationship with Chanel?

I just honestly can’t take that gamble with Chance’s hoe ass.

I refuse to be another notch on that nigga belt.

Plus, between workin’ at the prison and carin’ for my dad all my time already consumed.

So, believe me when I say I’m not tryna go down that road sis.

Work was aggravatin’ my nerves, so this vacation came right on time. ”

“Fine. I’ll just leave that subject alone.”

“And you don’t even know if I’m seein’ somebody or not.”

“Girl, you ain’t seein’ nobody but Mr. R.”

“Bitch, who the fuck is Mr. R?”

“Mr. Rose, your lil’ rose toy that I came across in yo’ room one day.”

“I cannot stand yo’ ass. You need to stop bein’ so damn nosey, but yep, I brought my man on vacay with me too.”

“I know that’s right, I’ma have to cop me one since I’m livin’ that single life now.”

“A lie doesn’t care who tell it, chyy.”

“I’m forreal!”

“So, you’re really done with Desmond?”

“I mean we still have lil’ convos here and there but when he tries to talk ‘bout us, I either hang up or change the subject.”

“And you ain’t gonna give Nas a chance?”

“Nawl, right now I wanna focus on me. It’s just been too much goin’ on in my life, so a break from niggas is much needed.”

“I feel that. So, its fuck these niggas this summer?”

“Damn straight.”

“Good because I’m tryin’ to see what these Atlanta streets talkin’ ‘bout.”

“After we tire these kids out today, I’m down to hit the streets.”

“Oh shit! Hell must done froze over! Let me get these muthafuckin’ kids up so we can hurry up and get the damn day over with,” she exclaimed as she hopped out of my bed.

Once I was alone, I went over to my suitcase to figure out what I was going to wear.

Since Nas and Chance took the girls shopping when we landed, they already had their matching outfits picked out and ready to go.

After I got dressed, I styled my boho knotless braids before exiting my room.

The girls were sitting at the table fully dressed while eating their breakfast. I decided to put something on my stomach while we waited for Yas to get ready.

“Y’all ready to hit these Atlanta streets?” Yas asked the girls as she entered the kitchen.

“Yes,” the girls answered in unison.

“Aww, I think y’all can do better than that. Are y’all ready to hit these Atlanta streets?!”

“Yyyyeeeeessssssssss!”

“Alright then! Let’s do this!”

I don’t know if it was the hype up Yas gave the girls before we left or what, but baby they hit these Atlanta streets hard.

From the hours we spent at the aquarium to all the walking we did at the botanical garden.

Soon as we got back to the room, it wasn’t long before everybody crashed.

I was sleeping so good to the point where I woke up with no eyelashes.

As we were feeding the girls, their dads came over and took the girls away with them.

That worked out in our favor, as we waited for our Uber.

We’d planned to go to a club tonight to let our hair down, but we needed outfits.

Nas gave me his card on the first night to show that he was ready to spend money.

I was hesitant to accept it but with me actually ready to enjoy myself, I was happy that I did.

The ding on my phone alerted me that our Uber had arrived.

We went and got pedicures before we hit a few outlets.

Once we found our outfits for the night, we headed back in.

I hoped that Nas wouldn’t be at our room door because he’d called while we were out and I ignored it.

Since he didn’t call back again or send a text, I figured it wasn’t an emergency.

The last thing I needed was for him to come and foil my mood with his foolishness.

God must have been looking out for your girl because I was able to come back to the hotel and get ready without any mess from Nas.

As I completed my lip combo, I gave myself a once over in the mirror.

The outfit I put together was cute as fuck, I had a polka dotted shirt, purse, and heels with some all-black capris.

It had my ass on full display, and my breast sitting up just right.

It had been a while since I’d gotten all dolled up, and I still could put that shit the fuck on.

“Ooooh, my bitch bad,” Yas squealed as I stepped out of my room. “That ass sittin’ up like two bunkbeds.”

“I know you not talkin’ over there lookin’ like a fuckin’ snack,” I complimented as I took in her two-piece polka dotted outfit. “We gonna be turnin’ heads all night, but we ain’t entertainin’ none of these niggas, yahemi?”

“You got that right! Tonight’s all ‘bout us. Let’s go.”

When we made it to the club, it was packed from wall to wall.

Luckily, Nas' card came in handy one more time when I used it to secure the last booth for tonight. As we followed the girl to our section the men were on our necks just like I’d predicted.

We decided to order two Hennessy and Cokes before she walked away to fill our order.

I vibed to the music as I surveyed the area.

Thinking of the last time I went out, I zoned out a little as I became uneasy.

“Sis, what’s wrong?” Yas inquired as she patted my thigh.

“Just was thinkin’ ‘bout the last time we were out,” I disclosed as the server came back with our drinks and a bottle of Hennessy some niggas sent over to us. I waited until she left to continue with my conversation. “Somebody stole my damn battery outta my car.”

“Girl, that’s not gonna happen tonight so chill out. We aren’t in Miami and we didn’t drive here, so we are good. Tonight we truly enjoy ourselves.”

Unknown to me, Yas had ordered us both a shot of Dussé.

Prompting our server to return before we hit our glasses together then downed the liquor.

The moment I swallowed my first shot it made me feel like I’d had five with how queasy my stomach became.

Shrugging it off I figured it was just my anxiety about the last time I was in a club.

Not wanting this night to be in vain, I took a sip of my drink before dancing to the music.

“This my shiiiitttt!” I exclaimed as NBA Youngboy’s hit song What You Is came blurring through the club speakers.

I put my hands on my knees and started twerking my ass.

Yas was smacking my ass while she hyped me up.

The flash from her phone turned me up as I stood up and started clapping my ass with no hands.

I was in my zone and enjoying the fuck out of myself until I didn’t hear Yas’s voice through the music or feel her smacking or rubbing my ass.

When I turned around to see what she was doing, I damn near pissed myself when my eyes landed on Nas standing there with a pissed off expression on his face.

“Oh, don’t stop now keep throwin’ that ass on my dime, Baby Mama,” Nas insisted.

“Nas, why is you here?” I inquired as I looked around him for Yas.

When I saw her off to the side talking with Chance, I focused my attention back on Nas.

It was confusing the fuck out of me on why he was trying to check me like I’m his girl or some shit.

“Because last time I checked I was grown as fuck and single, so from my calculations I can do whatever the fuck I want. So, make that shit make sense, my boy.”

“Make it make sense huh? How ‘bout I make that shit make cents by addin’ up all of my money you spent on yo’ lil’ night out.

I believe my card was swiped for the pedicures, the outfits, the accessories, the bag, the shoes and the fuckin’ section you shakin’ ya ass in.

Got all these niggas droolin’ over what’s mine. ”

“I’m single as a dollar bill so you need to stop tryna claim me. I told you from jump you were ‘bout to spin that cash what you thought I was playin’.”

“Nawl, I ain’t think you were playin’ but I ain’t think you were gonna be spendin’ money on stuff like this.”

“So, you mad cause I’m at a club?”

“Nope I ain’t mad ‘bout no insecure ass shit like that. I’m offended y’all ain’t invite us to come turn up with y’all.”

“Because y’all are supposed to be watchin’ the girls. Speakin’ of which who has them? And if yo’ ass say they out there in the car I’m bout to go upside yo’ head with that bottle of Hennessy.”

“Ooh now you concerned with Nyla.”

“Nasir, don’t pissed me the fuck off! Where is Nyla?!”

“Just chill. They with my mama, they’re good.”

“Ok. Well bye you can gone on with yo’ night.”

“I’m ‘bout to enjoy this section too. I don’t know what the fuck you thought was ‘bout to go down.”

“Ooh really? Well stay on the other side and don’t interrupt our vibe anymore. If you can do that then you can stay.”

“Bet.”

The rest of the night, I paid Nas little to no attention as I carried on as if he weren’t there.

Yas and I would twerk on each other from time to time, but when I would pop my shit on my own that’s when I could feel him staring a hole in my ass.

One time I looked up, and he was watching my ass menacingly while drinking from our bottle of Hennessy.

It wasn’t until my feet started hurting that I was ready to leave.

Luckily with Nas and Chance being here we didn’t have to wait on an Uber.

“The good thing ‘bout y’all being here is we don’t have to wait on a ride,” I announced as we walked towards their rental cars. “Plus, I ain’t gotta worry ‘bout tryna leave but can’t ‘cause my battery stolen. Still can’t believe somebody would do me like that.”

“Oh, that was me,” Nas causally confessed as we got into his car.

“Wait you stole my battery out of my car?”

“Yes, yes I did.”

“Bruh, what the fuck is wrong with you? Why would you do that? I can’t believe this shit.”

“Be forreal you can believe it. Hell, I’m surprised you didn’t put it together. And I stole it because you needed to get rid of that raggedy muthafucka.”

“See, yeah, I need to gone go back home and get the fuck from ‘round you before I wind up in jail.”

“You ain’t goin’ nowhere. Sit back and enjoy this damn free vacation.”

“More like vacation from hell.”

“Call it whatever you want yo’ ass still ain’t goin’ home.”

It took us a little over two weeks before we made it to our last stop here in California.

This city had a lot to offer, and the girls were taking full advantage of it.

We’d taken them to Disney World yesterday, and I was excited to enjoy today in the house.

Me and Yas had planned to binge some shows without distraction because the girls were their dad’s problems today.

As I slipped my pajamas on, I made my way towards Yas’s room just as my phone vibrated in my hands.

Nas:

It’s family day! We goin’ to the beach in an hour.

Me:

Just enjoy that with yo’ child.

Nas:

She asked for her mama now be ready in an hour Nessa.

I wanted to respond, but I didn’t even have the fight in me to go back and forth.

When I entered Yas’s room, I asked her if she knew about the family beach day.

Apparently, Chance texted her about it too.

They were hell bent on not allowing us to enjoy ourselves alone on vacation.

We went ahead and got dressed for the beach instead of wasting time.

When we made it to Santa Monica Pier, the girls wanted to enjoy the rides first. After they were finished, we headed towards the beach.

Me and Yas set up the sitting area while the girls played in the water with the guys.

I enjoyed watching Nyla and Nas playing around, and the smile she sported on her face was priceless.

This was all I wanted for my child to have a better childhood than I did and to have a present dad.

“Is it fine if I join you ladies?” Nina asked as she walked over to us.

“Of course,” I welcomed as I lifted my shades up. “I wondered where you were.”

“Had a lil’ business to handle first. I’m just glad my son actually listened to me for once.”

“I’m goin’ to go check on the girls and give y’all a moment alone,” Yas expressed.

“So, I’m guessin’ the family beach day was your idea?” I wondered as I went back to enjoying the sun.

“Yeah, he wanted to do something with you and Nyla but didn’t know how to do it without you feelin’ like it’s a date. Even though he wants to go on a date with you.”

“Nas, don’t want me trust he made that very clear years ago. We are strictly gonna co-parent our kid together.”

“You mean kids.”

“Excuse me?”

“He doesn’t know does he?”

“Know what?”

“Oh, my God, you don’t know either. I’m not dreamin’ ‘bout fishes because I like eatin’ ‘em. You may want to take a pregnancy test ‘cause you’re pregnant, sweetie.”

“No way.”

“No way, huh? If that’s the case, then takin’ a test wouldn’t hurt. Until then I’ll keep this between the two of us.”

“Yeah, a test wouldn’t hurt and ok. Thanks.”
