Chapter 20 #2
“Movin’ in with you??” Her eyes shot open. “Nas, I refuse to have Nyla leave from a house I’ve worked so hard to make a home. Now, you’ve handled the threats against us so can we just go back livin’ separate?”
“Ok, y’all don’t have to move from your home. I’ll just move in here.”
“Why if you’ve handled everythin’?”
“Because I can’t continue to be without you, Vanessa.
I was goin’ out of my fuckin’ mind while you were away ‘cause I was scared that I could not see you again. If you were taken away from me before I could tell you that I love you with every ounce of me, I would’ve been fucked up.
Listen, I know I hurt you when I ended things, and you gotta know that shit ‘bout killed me. I just couldn’t allow you to do that time with me.
That’s not something you deserve no matter how much it would hurt me to see you go on.
As a man I wanted you to be able to live yo’ life even without me, but I was determined to do everything I could to get you back.
If I have to spend the rest of my days apologizin’ for leavin’ and hurtin’ you, I will Nessa.
I know I always say I gotcha you, but I need you more than I need my last breath. ”
“Nasir,” she whispered as tears rolled down her eyes.
“I know I can’t rewrite the past, and if you haven’t forgiven me I understand. I’ll sleep in another room until I win you over, but I wanna come home. Can a nigga come home, Nessa?”
“Yes, you can home.”
“Finally!”
“But you will be in a separate room.”
“And I’m completely fine with that. As long as Triple N under the same roof that’s all that matters to me.”
“Triple N?”
“Nas, Nessa and Nyla duh,” I laughed as I got comfortable behind her on the sofa. “Soon we will be N4.”
“I’m sixteen weeks today. He’s the size of an avocado.”
“Ok, my son puttin’ on some weight. That’s what the fuck I’m talkin’ ‘bout.”
“Not puttin’ on some weight,” Nessa giggled. “Nas I’m sorry.”
“Wait, what you sorry for?” I sat up so I could look her in the eyes.
“I’m sorry for not tellin’ you I was pregnant with Nyla.”
“Nessa, you did what you had to do at the time. I don’t blame you because I wouldn’t have been able to be there for you like I can this go around.
You don’t have to apologize for not causin’ her no pain like you were dealin’ with.
Hell, thank you for keepin’ my face clean with our daughter by tellin’ her I went to the military. ”
“Every girl's first love is their dad even if they aren’t there. We always hope that one day they come and show us love like no other. I couldn’t break her heart especially knowing you were comin’ to her the moment you came home and found out ‘bout her. Now, are you sure you don’t want a test for this baby? ”
“A test? Like a DNA test?”
“Yeah.”
“Nessa, don’t fuckin’ play with me. Why would I want a test for my son?”
“Because I was cheatin’ on my boyfriend with you.”
“All that nigga had was a title. The moment I came home I had yo’ heart no matter how hard you continued to fight it. ‘Cause answer me this: were you fuckin’ that nigga after I hit the first time?”
“No.”
“Then no I don’t need no fuckin’ test. Now restart the movie so we can watch it soon as I come back from the bathroom.”
I eased up from behind before going to the bathroom.
Aside from hiding Nyla, Nessa ain’t never lied to me before.
So, her word that she wasn’t having sex with Desmond after I came home was all I needed.
When I think about it, she didn’t technically lie about Nyla because I just didn’t know about her.
After I relieved my bladder, I washed my hands before grabbing my phone.
Me:
Package secured. Family reunion soon?
Nina:
Protect the package. And no family reunion until after the holidays.
Me:
Are you sure?
Nina:
Yes, review the family tree until then because new year means new reunion.
Me:
Bet.
Exiting the bathroom, I was surprised that Nina wanted to wait until the new year to move on Juan.
A part of me was happy to be able to have this little breather, but I was going to look over all the stuff I still had to see if I’m able to catch something we missed.
When I rounded the corner, I stopped in my tracks as I watched Nyla and Nessa interact.
As a man this was such a rewarding moment to see the two of them interact so carefree.
Nyla looked up and our eyes connected before she ran over to me.
“Daddy!” Nyla exclaimed as I lifted her into the air.
“Baby Girl,” I beamed with much pride before placing her on my back. “You just abandoned yo’ mama like she was a sack of potatoes.”
“I’m sorry, Mommy. I was excited to see my Daddy.”
“It be ya own people,” Nessa faked hurt. “That’s why I didn’t even tell you because I already know that I’ma get treated like chopped liver when yo’ dad around.”
“I smell a hater,” I teased. “Don’t hate the playa, hate the game.”
“Y’all can have each other. I’m goin’ to go take a soak while you watch Princess and The Frog with her for the millionth time,” Nessa smirked before walking away.
“Mommy just don’t know that’s actually one of my favorite movies,” I explained to Nyla.
“Really?! Mine too!”
“How ‘bout I make us some popcorn while we watch it?”
“Yes, Daddy, please!”
“I’ll be right back my little princess.”
