“Yeah. She owes daddy some money and he probably made her come over here, cause she’s real cute or whatever.”
I laughed. “Okay, now you adding stuff. Who said all that, Shi?”
“I told myself that. You don’t just be letting people come over here. And she’s way too pretty to be cleaning houses and stuff.”
Aspen grinned, revealing her missing front tooth. “She looks like those girls you follow on IG, daddy.”
I couldn’t stop laughing. “Girl, what I tell you about messing with my phone?”
Aspen opened her arms. “I just wanted to see what people was posting.”
Shi cut her eyes at her sister. “Cause you nosy.” “And is.” Aspen sassily twisted her neck. “Then you’re like me, granny,” Babi offered. “Granny?” Aspen hooded her eyes.
“Yeah.” Babi nodded. “You’re missing teeth like my granny. So, hey.” She shrugged.
Shi and Aspen laughed.
“What’s your TikTok?” Shi lifted her phone, while interacting with Babi like she was her new classmate or some shit.
“B-A-B-I F-A-C-E L-E-G-E-N-D,” Babi spelled out.
Shi grinned. “That’s you and my daddy’s name together.” Babi tilted her head. “Weird aint it?”
“Not really,” Shi shrugged. “Anyway, let’s go to the kitchen, y’all. Then daddy can cook breakfast. And Babi, you can cook lunch.”
Instinctively, me and Babi looked at each other, realizing that my kids were unquestionably calling the shots.
