Epilogue

Hollywood Confidential Exclusive: Jack & Ivy Unscripted

In a rare joint interview at their ranch in Austin, Jack and Ivy Holiday open up about their friendship, their marriage, what it’s like working together in Hollywood, and what’s next for them.

They are barefoot on their deck, sipping coffee, teasing each other and laughing about the amount of whipped cream in Ivy’s drink.

There’s no doubt why they are called one of Hollywood’s cutest couples.

“Jack, Ivy—your story started in a hair salon and ended up on a ranch in Austin. Did either of you see this coming back when you first met?”

Jack: Marriage? No. But I knew I wanted to know Ivy.

Ivy: Definitely not. In fact, I did my best to avoid him. I used to think you had to watch out for the Jacks of the world. Obviously, I’ve changed my mind.

“Seven years as friends before anything romantic—was there a defining moment when things shifted, or did it sneak up on you?”

Jack: I knew from the first moment she called me Jack, I was going to fall in love with her.

Ivy: Well, I was so determined that we would never be anything more than friends that yeah, it snuck up on me. It almost felt like a thief in the night. But . . . looking back on those seven years, I loved Jack. He was my person.

“Jack, you’ve said before you don’t think men and women can be just friends. How did that belief survive seven years of friendship with Ivy?”

Jack: That’s easy. I always knew I was right. I never wanted to be just friends with Ivy. And I knew one day she’d come around.

“Follow-up for Ivy: How do you counter that assertion?”

Ivy: First of all, Jack is still my best friend, even after arrogant answers like that.

And I love that we were friends for so long.

I think it’s made our relationship even stronger.

And I believe men and women can be just friends because as humans we have the ability to set strong boundaries and adhere to them. I mean, seven years is a long time.

“Ivy, what’s it really like doing your husband’s hair before he steps onto a big set? Do you get more bossy or more flirty?”

Ivy: At first, I was so nervous about being on set. I felt so out of place. I think I was probably more bossy because I wanted everything to be perfect. But now that I’ve relaxed, I would say I’m definitely more playful.

“You’ve worked on blockbusters and now, live on a ranch. What’s the trick to balancing Hollywood hustle with quiet country life?”

Jack: When we’re home, we’re home. We do our best to stay off social media, and we take limited phone calls.

“Who made the first move? And were you terrified it would ruin the friendship if it didn’t work out?”

Jack: Well, Ivy kissed me first.

Ivy: Um . . . I think you have your facts wrong.

Jack: Okay, I kissed her first. And, yes, it scared the hell out of me thinking I could lose Ivy. But I knew we were meant to be. I knew it was a risk I had to take. Best decision of my life.

“What’s your version of date night out here in Texas? Are we talking rodeo boots or red-carpet vibes?”

Ivy: Definitely more rodeo boots around here. We love riding horses and going on picnics. Even working in our garden. Who knew Jack had a green thumb? We’re more prone to stay in and snuggle while we watch an old movie. Honestly, I’m still terrified every time we walk the red carpet.

Jack: But you look gorgeous doing it.

“Jack, has having Ivy on set changed the way you show up to work—as a performer and as a person?”

Jack: Ivy has shaped me more than anyone. Not only does she keep me grounded, but she lifts me up. Having her in my life makes me want to be better in all aspects.

Ivy: Aww, that’s sweet, babe. I feel the same.

“You’ve been married two years now. What’s surprised you most about being husband and wife versus best friends?”

Ivy: Honestly, not much. We were in so much of each other’s lives before, transitioning into marriage was easy. Sure, there’s more vulnerability, but one thing about Jack is he’s always made me feel comfortable to be myself around him. It’s one of the things I love most about him.

Jack: I agree with Ivy. I’m a great husband. But in all seriousness, I love that there were no surprises. What you see with Ivy is what you get. Just pure goodness.

“Jack, there is some buzz going around Hollywood that you could be looking at an Oscar for your latest film, The Quiet Season. What do you say to that?”

Jack: Of course, it would be an honor to be nominated, but that’s not why I take roles. I just knew this was a special film when I first read the script. I’m just grateful I got to be a part of it. The whole team was amazing to work with. So, we’ll see what happens.

“Well, let’s talk about the biggest news here. First of all, congratulations. Baby Holidays are on the way. Were you surprised to find out you were having twins?”

Ivy: Thank you. And oh, yeah. Big shock. We are thrilled, of course, but it was definitely a surprise. But we can’t wait to meet our little boy and our little girl.

“Do you have names picked out yet?”

Jack: Yes, but we are keeping those to ourselves.

“Last question. Hollywood loves a love story. If someone made a rom-com about your lives, who would play each of you—and what would it be called?”

Jack: Glen Powell, hands down. Call me, Glen.

Ivy: Oh, gosh, I don’t know. Who do you think, Jack?

Jack: I’m going to go with Alexandra Daddario. Her striking blue eyes are almost as stunning as yours.

Ivy: Ooh, I love her. As for the name . . . I think that’s easy.
