Chapter 11 Enzo
ELEVEN
ENZO
“Are you sure you have everything?” I looked over the small suitcase Cole brought downstairs, along with Rosalie’s. He’d begged to have this weekend with her. I’d given in because I knew we all needed to have time alone with her, plus I was taking her on our honeymoon soon, so it made sense.
It didn’t make me worry any less.
To make matters worse, I received news that Anson was getting married.
He was getting a fucking wife, and it was none other than Bianca.
I reached out to Dominic, who was too busy destroying his safe house to come to the phone. Suffice it to say, he was pretty unhappy with the situation, and Vincent promised they’d get him cooled down. As far as I knew, whatever the kings had done had worked to quell the fire.
But Anson was in a fuck of a lot of trouble for this stunt.
I didn’t know why he’d done it, and he certainly wasn’t answering his damn phone to tell me.
I’d even visited his apartment several times this week and had a couple of guys out front to watch the place since he’d not been home.
Fox mentioned seeing him a week ago, but said he didn’t know anything.
Rosalie didn’t know about Anson’s sudden engagement, and I sure as hell wasn’t going to be the one to tell her either. Cole, on the other hand, was pissed. I wasn’t quite sure why, other than it fucked with the kings, but he seemed to take Anson’s sudden engagement personally.
I didn’t want to focus on it right now. I’d watch and wait.
Something was going on. It had to be more than Matteo arranging this marriage.
From what I knew, Matteo was the one who had been trying to fuck Bianca from the start.
I guess if he kept with his sick traditions, he’d still get the opportunity.
Maybe Anson would be more accommodating than Dom had been.
“I got everything,” Cole said, clapping me on the back.
“Weapons—”
“Enzo, man. I have everything. Relax.”
I sighed and nodded. “I just worry. That’s all.”
“You know I won’t let her out of my sight. Besides, you’re sending Derek and Randy with us. Those two are bloodhounds.”
I grunted. He was right. They were two of the best men we had as far as gunfights went. They shot first and asked questions, well, never.
Rosie came into the room wearing a pretty pink sundress, her red curls in a high ponytail. She looked stunning.
Fuck, I didn’t want them to go.
Too late now. I’d already made the deal with the guys.
I hoped Fox took her next because he was so damn depressed.
I was concerned. I figured maybe I could hang out with him this weekend while Rosalie was away.
Maybe we’d get shit sorted and he’d smile a little more.
He did seem happier than he had been, but he still wasn’t a hundred.
Something was bothering him, and I wanted to get to the bottom of it.
“You are breathtaking,” I said, kissing her soft lips.
She melted against me, kissing me back. I’d fucked her last night in her bedroom alone. I was tempted to haul her right back upstairs and sink inside her body again.
“I’ll miss you,” I whispered against her lips.
“I’ll miss you, too. Be good,” she replied.
I chuckled softly. “I’m always good, Sunshine.”
She nipped my bottom lip. Fuck, what she did to me. I pulled her away from the suitcases, deciding I needed her once more before she left, but E swept into the room and tore her away from me, shooting me a knowing smirk as he did so.
“My turn,” he said, lifting her into his arms and spinning her. She let out a laugh, her arms around his neck, before he fused his lips to hers.
He placed her gently on her feet and whispered things to her not meant for any of us. When he released her, she went to Fox. I hadn’t even noticed he’d come into the room. I watched the pair kiss on one another and whisper like she’d done with E.
Fox’s kiss was intense. She was breathless when he released her. She stumbled away from him and over to Cole, a tiny smile on her lips.
At least he was being normal to her. That meant he was probably OK, or at the very least, getting to the point of being OK.
I planned the weekend so we could hang out.
E was welcome to join us, but I knew E. He would bury himself in the basement to get far enough ahead so that when Rosalie and Cole returned, he could take her upstairs and show her how much he missed her.
“Take care of her,” I warned Cole again.
He rolled his eyes at me. “Don’t insult me, Enzo. For fuck’s sake. I know how to handle my woman.”
“That’s not what I’m worried about,” I muttered as he grabbed both their suitcases.
Rosalie gave us a wave and followed Cole outside, leaving us all alone.
Immediately, the house felt way too empty.
They weren’t going far. A bed and breakfast on the lake, but I was still on edge. Cole tried to argue he wanted to use the trip Rosalie got them, but I bartered with him on it, swearing I’d let him fuck Rosalie on our wedding night after I’d had her. He agreed without batting an eyelash.
“I’ll be in the basement,” E said, glancing from Fox to me. He widened his eyes at me and nodded quickly to Fox as a means to tell me to talk to him before he went downstairs.
I cleared my throat. “Hey. I thought maybe we could hang out today if you’re not doing anything.”
“I’m busy. I’m going to the gym for conditioning. Probably going to hit the field and throw some. We’re hitting the field again next month. Don’t want to fall behind.”
“I’ll come with you if that’s cool,” I said immediately. “I haven’t played in forever.”
Fox shrugged. “Whatever you want. I’ll grab my bag.” He didn’t wait for me. He rushed upstairs.
I took that opportunity to go into the kitchen.
I quickly put together some protein drinks for us before dashing upstairs to change into workout gear.
It felt strange not to be dressed to kill.
When I returned to the living room, Fox was waiting for me at the door.
I grabbed the protein shakes and handed one to him.
“Thanks,” he said, pulling open the front door. I followed him out. I was going to suggest my new Escalade, but he went for his Jeep. I got into the passenger side and we left.
“This is weird,” I said as we turned onto the street.
“What is?”
“Us. In your Jeep. Dressed like this. It’s like high school all over again.”
Fox let out a soft laugh. “Yeah, I guess it is. Except now we don’t have a curfew.”
“Like we ever followed it.” I laughed.
He shot me a knowing grin. I relaxed and caught my men tailing us a few car lengths back.
We were quiet for a moment before I spoke.
“Are you OK?” I asked softly.
“No,” he replied, glancing at me. “I will be, though.”
“Do you want to talk about it?”
He was quiet for a moment. “It’s really the same old stuff, man.”
I nodded. I figured.
“I, uh, I’ve been looking into things,” I said.
“What things?”
“On how we can all legally marry Rosalie.”
He glanced at me, surprise on his face. “How?”
“There’s this place overseas. It’s legal there. I thought maybe we could do it after her and I do it here. I, um, well, I booked us for two weeks on the island there for next summer. I thought we could all do it then. I mean, if you guys want to. I’m sure Cole and E are down for it.”
Fox pulled off the street and parked along a curb.
“What are we doing?” I looked around.
“Are you serious?” Fox asked, looking over at me.
I nodded. “I am. I know I’ve monopolized her, and it was shitty of me to take her away from everyone.
Especially you,” I whispered. “It was selfish of me. I-I was jealous of what you have with her.” I breathed out as his blue eyes stayed fixed on me.
“Fuck, Fox. I’m still jealous. You have with her what I’m desperate to have with her.
I love her so goddamn much. I want the world for us.
I know I’m fucking shit up, but I’m trying so hard to be a good man for her.
To prove to her that I’m worth it, too.”
“Why do you think you’re not worth it?”
I shrugged and looked out the window. “Come on, Fox. I’m not you.
You’ve always been the best at everything.
Even loving Rosalie. We all know it. I guess when my dad told me to marry, I seized my chance to have her in a way you didn’t.
I’m not proud of it, but I also knew it was the only way to keep us together.
Deep down, I was grateful for this tradition.
” I shook my head. “I’m sorry. I’ve been acting like it’s not a big deal, but I know it is.
It’s something I want with you guys. We’re equals.
I know I wouldn’t be where I am without any of you.
This is my way of thanking you. Of really keeping us together. ”
Fox visibly swallowed as he stared at me, his blue eyes shining with unshed tears.
I blew out a breath. “So I guess this is me asking if you’ll marry my wife.”
“Yeah, man. Yeah. I will.” He wiped quickly at his cheeks.
“Damnit, Constantino. You’re going to make me fucking cry too,” I choked out, wiping quickly at my eyes.
He leaned over and hugged me. I squeezed him back, glad this seemed to have helped. I was going to keep it a secret and tell the guys the day of the wedding before Rosalie walked down the aisle, but this seemed like a better time. I’d wait to tell the guys. Fox needed this right now.
“Thank you,” Fox said thickly. “Enzo. You have no idea what this means to me.”
“You’re welcome,” I replied.
He wiped at his eyes again and genuinely smiled for the first time in weeks. One that reached his eyes.
“Let’s go play some football,” I said, clapping him on the shoulder.
“Hell yeah.” His grin widened, and he pulled the Jeep back onto the street.
Hell yeah was right. Things were looking up.
