CHAPTER FIFTY-SIX
EMBER
“ I need you both to change into these gowns.” The doctor gestures toward the flimsy paper folded on the exam table. “I’ll give you a minute.”
I watch as he steps out of the room, expecting Cain to go with him, but he remains by the door, his eyes locked on us.
“Can we have some privacy?” I snap.
“You think I’m going to leave you two in a room full of things I haven’t vetted? Absolutely not.” He glares.
I blow out an irritated breath. I need to pull his attention off Elsie so she can stash the blade that’s still in her palm, but I can’t piss him off so much that he’ll hurt me.
Not when we’re so close to being out of his clutches.
“I’m not changing with you in here.” I fold my arms over my chest and cross to the other side of the room.
He advances on me, turning his back on Elsie for long enough for her to slip the tiny weapon into her own pocket.
Cain grasps my chin between his fingers, forcing me to look up at him.
“Listen here, you little cunt,” he growls.
“Lucas might think you have a magic pussy, but I know you’re just another whore who will open her legs for anyone and love every second.
I suggest you do as you’re told before I fuck you right here and then let the doctor have his turn.
Might even save some money if we pay him with your cunt. ”
A shiver of disgust moves through my body, earning me a smug chuckle from the asshole holding onto me.
I force myself to nod, and he releases me, causing me to stumble back into the cupboard behind me. Pain lances through my hip, and I yelp, unable to swallow the sound.
Cain laughs. “Oh, if you think that hurt, you’re going to really fucking hate what Lucas likes to do to his whores.”
I force calming breaths into my lungs before joining Elsie in changing into the flimsy paper gowns, just in time for the doctor to return.
He seems almost disappointed that we were able to change in the time he gave us, but he turns to Cain without addressing us. “What are we doing for these two?”
“General checkup on Elsie. Boss is selling her and needs a full report before the buyer will take her. And then removal of an IUD on the other one.”
My breath whooshes from my lungs, and I have to grasp onto Elsie to stop myself from falling on my ass.
I have way too many questions right now. Starting with, how the fuck does Lucas know what kind of birth control I’m on? And ending with, what the fuck does he mean he’s selling Elsie?
A wave of dizziness hits me as stars burst to life in my vision.
This is a hell of a time to have a panic attack, that’s for sure.
I glance over at Elsie, her eyes flaring with terror as her chest rises and falls rapidly.
Releasing her arm, I give her a small nod and flicker my gaze to the door before allowing the panic to slam into me at full force.
My knees give way beneath me, and I hit the ground so hard my bones protest, but it doesn’t matter. None of it matters.
Because I’m about to become the wife of a man I despise.
I’m about to be forced to have his children.
I’m about to live a life far worse than any I’d ever imagined before I woke up in that cell.
Hands grasp me as irritated voices fill the room, but it’s nothing but darkness in my vision, my body handing itself over to the anxiety I’ve tried to bury.
Somewhere in the distance, I’m aware of Cain’s shouting, but I’m too far gone to pay it any mind.
Hopefully, Elsie can get back to the life she’s fought so hard for.
