Chapter 11

Cassie

Present Day

“O h, that’s me. That’s me! I’m the classmate who went through the messy breakup!”

Becca starts jumping up and down on the spot, and the sudden movement makes me feel nauseous all over again.

My stomach dives, dizziness rolling through me. Hot puke fills my throat, and I only just make it to the toilet in time to watch the contents of my stomach swirl down the porcelain bowl in a glorious display of technicolor grossness.

Oh god. I feel awful.

Groaning loudly, I close my eyes tightly and take several deep breaths to stop the heaving. Still on my knees, I reach for some toilet paper to wipe my face.

Weakly, I stand, flushing the toilet as I head back to the sink. I’m dizzy, sweating profusely and no doubt look like a hot mess.

Becca pats my back with one hand while keeping her face turned away. I don’t blame her.

“It was me , right?” she clarifies.

At the sink, I swish my mouth out with some water and stare at my pale reflection in the mirror.

“Yep, that’s the night you persuaded me to go with you to spy on Hunter, so basically…this whole thing is your fault.”

Her mouth falls open. “How is any of this my fault?”

“Because you abandoned me at a stupid frat party to have revenge sex with Hunter’s best friend. And, just so you know, my stance on the subject remains firm that it was a terrible, terrible idea.”

Becca laughs once, but it’s full of mockery and scornful contempt. Bitch . “I’ll grant you it wasn’t the best decision I’ve ever made, but I didn’t abandon you at a frat party, Cassie. I left you standing out front of an extremely well-lit building with a perfectly sweet and beefy bouncer. You were safe and dry and your Uber was eight minutes away. What could have possibly happened in those eight minutes that led to you ending up like this?”

“You really want to know?”

“Of course I do.”

“Fine, let me explain it to you then,” I say, trying to breathe through the overwhelming desire I have to once again hurl my guts up all over the floor.

Yep. Pregnancy is awesome.
