Chapter 11
Margo
I shoulder my bag and glance between Caleb and Eli. “I think I’ll just have Riley?—”
“Get in the damn truck, Wolfe,” Eli grunts. “It’s too early for this.”
Caleb snickers. “He’s not a morning person.”
He puts his hand on the small of my back, guiding me to the passenger side of the truck. He opens the back door and slips my backpack off, tossing it in first. I follow.
While he went back to school immediately, I got an extra two days.
“What’s the school saying about me?” I ask them once I’m buckled.
They look back. I chose the middle seat so I could see out the windshield, and also both of them.
“They’re not saying anything,” Caleb says.
I scowl. “Why not?”
“Do you want them to?” Eli questions.
“No.”
“They won’t because of us.” Eli backs out of the driveway. “You’re one of us now, Wolfe.”
Right. Near-death experience will do that to a girl, I guess.
“You don’t go anywhere without one of us,” Caleb says. “We’ve been talking…”
“You’ve been talking?” I repeat.
“About your safety,” he continues as if I didn’t interrupt. “Ian is a wild card. I haven’t forgotten what he did to you, and I don’t think a little beatdown at a party is going to stop him if he has more shit to stir. Robert is still in the ICU, which means your stalker was fucking serious. Your stalker could be a classmate. Do you want me to go on?”
I sink back in my seat.
I guess he has a point… although I hate the idea of them babysitting me.
“Our next step is to uncover your stalker,” Caleb continues.
He told me last night that Unknown texted him coordinates, and that’s how he found me. Which makes it seem more and more like a setup for Caleb to get arrested.
“How?” I question.
He exchanges a look with Eli. “You’re not going to like it…”
Great.
