Chapter 24 The Altar of Submission
POV: Sienna
The transition from the obsidian desk of the study to the sprawling shadows of Roman’s primary master suite was a blur of frantic, heated friction.
He didn't set me down. He carried me through the dark corridors, his mouth never fully leaving mine, devouring my shallow gasps of air as if they were his personal currency.
The bedroom was a cavernous sanctuary of dark velvet and monolithic concrete, illuminated only by the rhythmic, violet lightning fracturing the storm outside.
The massive, low-profile bed sat in the center of the room like a dark altar.
Roman slammed me down onto the center of the slate-grey silk mattress, the sheer impact knocking the breath cleanly from my lungs. Before I could even blink, his towering frame was over me, caging my body beneath his.
The heavy, suffocating scent of bergamot, expensive scotch, and raw, primal dominance flooded my senses.
Roman’s unhinged possessiveness, entirely unleashed after two years of icy restraint, radiated off him like an incoming storm.
He didn't look like the clinical, untouchable Don anymore; his dark hair was wild, his pitch-black eyes completely dilated, swallowing the iris whole in the dim violet light.
"You think you can just give yourself to me tonight and expect a clean break tomorrow, Sienna?
" he rasped, his voice a guttural, filthy scrape against my ear.
He grabbed both of my wrists with a single, massive hand, pinning them firmly above my head against the silk pillows.
"There is no turning back from this. Look at me. "
I tilted my head up, forcing my features into a mask of breathless, aching compliance. "I told you, Roman... I’m done fighting the dark."
The lie tasted thick and coppery on my tongue, but as he lowered his head to drag his mouth roughly down the sensitive column of my neck, a violent, traitorous jolt of pure, unadulterated lust pooled low in my stomach.
The seduction was a strategy—a desperate, life-or-death gamble to secure my freedom—but the nuclear heat of his body pressing flush against my center was short-circuiting my logical synapses.
My spine arched instinctively, a breathless whimper tearing from my throat as his free hand gripped my thigh, sliding the midnight-blue silk of my dress up to my hip.
His touch was punishing, heavy, and completely consuming. He was marking his territory, his calloused thumbs digging into my skin with enough force to leave phantom bruises. I had to ground myself. I had to focus on the objective through the dizzying fog of arousal threatening to pull me under.
His vest.
When he had hovered over me, his discarded black suit jacket had been left on the study floor, but he was still wearing his tailored charcoal vest over his silk shirt.
The garment was pressed flush against my ribs, the heavy, distinct weight of the titanium override key shifting subtly with every jagged, ragged breath he took.
"Mine," Roman growled against my skin, his teeth lightly grazing the sensitive juncture of my shoulder and neck. He released my wrists, his hand sliding down to cup the back of my neck, pulling me impossibly closer as he recaptured my mouth in a bruising, desperate collision of teeth and tongue.
This was the window. The moment of absolute distraction.
I brought my arms down, wrapping them tightly around his broad shoulders as if entirely swept away by the current of his passion.
I arched my back, leaning into the friction of his hips, letting out a fractured, needy gasp against his lips.
Roman groaned—a deep, shattered sound that vibrated straight through my bones—and his focus entirely narrowed down to the space between our mouths.
Slowly, meticulously, I let my right hand slide down his back, trailing around the contours of his ribs to the front of his torso. My fingertips trembled, slick with sweat and adrenaline.
I slipped two fingers beneath the silk lining of his inner vest pocket.
The cold, unforgiving edge of brushed titanium brushed against my skin.
My heart hammered a frantic, terrified rhythm against my ribs, so violently I was certain he would feel it through my chest. I caught the delicate links of the silver chain attached to the key.
With an agonizingly slow, calculated motion, I squeezed my fingers together, lifting the four-sided cruciform key out of its custom slot.
The mechanism didn't make a sound. The fabric didn't rustle.
I closed my palm around the heavy metal cylinder, instantly tucking it beneath the folds of the discarded silk dress pooling around my waist. The cold iron felt like fire against my palm—the physical weight of my escape, stolen from the apex predator while he worshipped at the altar of my manufactured submission.
Roman tore his mouth away, his breathing a chaotic, heaving rattle in the quiet room.
He stared down at me, his face flushed, a single drop of sweat tracing the sharp line of his jaw.
The absolute, unvarnished devotion burning in his gaze was terrifying, a suffocating gravity that almost made me regret the betrayal curling in my fist.
"You are completely shaking," Roman murmured softly, his thumb gently tracing the line of my lower lip, a stark, agonizing contrast to the violence of his previous grip.
He believed it was fear mixed with desire.
He believed he had finally won. "Don't be afraid of me, Sienna. I have you. You are entirely safe."
"I know," I whispered, the word nearly choking me as I buried my face in the crook of his neck, hiding the fierce, cold calculation hardening in my eyes.
He lowered himself back down, completely enveloping me in his dark warmth, utterly oblivious to the fact that the bird he had meticulously caged had just systematically stripped the lock right off the door.
The real game was just beginning, and I only had a few hours left before the sun came up to run.
